Going to be remade for Americans.

*sighs*

reply

strange. usually only highly successful foreign films getting an us remake, livid's reception has been rather humble as yet...

reply

ok, after watching the movie, i must say a remake is not such a bad idea at all. the french original is indeed "good yet flawed", so if the script gets rewritten, there are chances for it to become a great flick.

reply

I agree. I'm not satisfied. However, I pray they do it right. If it's done right, this could be amazing. If not, it will just look like another bad attempt to translate a foreign film.

reply

Yes, if they get their wording done correctly, the sub-titles were bad so it will be interesting to see a US adaptation of this, it will live or die in translation.

So I'm not the only person that thinks US remakes hand everything to you on a plate! :)

reply

Lol, Hollywood is so disappointing these days. I'm so tired of all the remakes of old American movies, as well as remakes of foreign films. Can no one in Hollywood come up with a decent, original or at least innovative idea?

They can, and they do - not that it makes any difference. Go to any producer's office in Hollywood and you'll probably find filing cabinets full of original and innovative screenplays, gathering dust in the dark while the studio vomits another teen vampire romance or scary movie parody into the can. Original stories are being written and pitched all the time, but they don't actually get made into movies, and the ones that do will pass through the hands of several studio writers first to make them more marketable.

Basically, film companies have to make money, or they can't make films. Given the choice of making a really original and groundbreaking film that might sink like a lead balloon and cost them a fortune (and a few jobs), or cranking out the same tried-and-true formulas that have paying for themselves for years, it's not hard to see why they keep putting out the same crap.

But hey, some of 'em are trying, and sometimes they'll serve up something new. In the meantime, remaking original films that have already been successful in another market is their substitute for making original films of their own.

A remake? Awww hell. I better buy the french version before the producers of the original send their henchmen out to destroy every existing copies. Such a disgusting practice.

Jeez - it would be nice if the original were released here first:/ I don't want to watch a crappy pirated version with dyslexic subtitles. LAME!

Kind of interesting that the French studio retained the rights and is doing the remake themselves - maybe they're hoping for a bigger budget and a chance to correct any flaws in the first? Hopefully it won't end up co-opted by a major Hollywood studio.

They're coming to get you, Barbara!

The Weinsteins own the rights but they're known for taking their sweet time on releasing foreign films. I lost track of how many times Martyrs was delayed. Plus if Inside and Martyrs are any indication, it won't be released on Blu-ray either. :/

FWIW the UK is going to get it on DVD/Blu-ray this August.

reply

I guess it's heartening that it'll be released somewhere with English subtitles - I'd really like to see it since I enjoyed Inside so much (and I like dreamy haunted house stuff). C'mon, Weinsteins, it's already been a year ....

If they Remake this, then they had better keep the main actress(she was hot) and the girl that played Anna.

reply

I'm always scared when I hear that America is remaking a foreign horror film. But the Let the Right One In remake was pretty good. No where near as good as the original, but it wasn't a failure. Hopefully they don't fail this film, because I loved it. I had to watch with really bad subtitles so that was annoying, but I still understood what was going on. I think if they get the right people to do it they have a chance of making an excellent remake.

reply

Remakes remove the mystery. At the end Lucie could be free, dying, heavenly bound etc but the US one will have it all on the plate.

reply

There is no mystery. The opening scene shows that she is quite clearly dead.

reply

Who says that the head was Lucy's?

reply

Look closer :) The moth flying out if her mouth kind of gave a clear impression it was Lucy. It was a nice touch, not something I particularly paid attention to during the opening credits, but after going back, well, there it is.

reply

I guess it's plausible then... but damn, that head looked too manly to be Lucy. For me at least.

reply

"for Americans"? as if we're the only ones in the ENTIRE world that speak English...
