The Runny/Vomiting Point

Sigh, the two episodes this week were also the worst episodes BY FAR, the first episode, "hey, picking your nose, that's funny right?" No, still it was better than the second episode "Vomiting Point", what was up with that one? Unbelievably boring, no laughs, just dead from beginning to end, what? It's great just because it's different? It stunk. This show keeps disappointing me, and I know it can be so funny and awesome, it seems they're not really trying. Even so, being an idiot, I'll keep watching in hope of seeing more episodes like "Death Race 2010" and "Diet Syndrome".

At last, another good episode, that makes 3 out of what? 11 episodes. Anyway, this week's episode gave me a little incentive to keep on watching. The two new demon characters, fantastic, I love them. But why introduce two villains that are far sexier, cooler and even more likeable than the main heroines? Anyway, I'm glad we got another high quality episode.

Vomiting Point is the greatest episode of any animated series since ****ing Kaiba, a goddamn masterpiece on every level that signals exactly what anime should strive to be.

Bravo, Gainax! Daring to put things like artistry and legitimate SATIRE in a show in a season where so few dared.

In a season where awful, awful crap like Squid Girl can find success, it's nice to know there's still things like Tatami Galaxy and the Vomiting Point episode of Panty & Stocking that push the envelope.

That's not a problem. A dead man will never be a problem.

How exactly did it "push the envelope"? Just radically changing the animation style and have a story that has nothing to do with the series up until the last few minutes, just because it's new and different doesn't necessarily make it great.

reply

Nor does it make it bad.

The entire series up to now has been about ribbing anime conventions, so to totally bash them in with this episode isn't out of place at all. It's never been a heavily narrative driven series to begin with anyway, so I personally welcome such experimental tangents.

And it's not just a "different" style. It's a wonderfully, marvelously grotesque style that caricatures real life.

If it doesn't work for you, I'm sorry, but this has just pushed the series into the stratosphere for me. It's among the best things Gainax has ever done.

That's not a problem. A dead man will never be a problem.

Okay, I can definitely respect that you loved it as something fresh and new, at least they didn't throw out sex jokes every five seconds and I'm all for experimenting in the genre. I didn't think it paid off, I didn't like it, obviously you did, we'll just have to agree to disagree.
