New Themesong

NEW THEMESONG. I HATE IT. It sounds auto tuned, and just really lame, I miss the old one.

It was sung by Vanessa Morgan and Kate Todd, which I guess shows that even the Canadian Disney shows aren't immune to pushing their female stars out front to sing.

The original version is much better.

reply

Nothing against them, but I figured as much. Disney or Teletoon probably forced them.

there not bad singers but i am use to the other

reply

Yep, I actually think that's a requirement when being on a Disney Show... Knowing how to sing at least a little bit. They ask you to do it during auditions, I don't know why they always do that.

reply

What new theme song?

"Has anyone seen my bucket of plutonium? It's about yay big and is super radioactive."

reply

I haven't heard this new theme yet... which episode?

I'm kind of glad though. I never really thought the original song fit the show. I like the instrumental part, it's pretty catchy...but the lyrics give no real indication that this is a supernatural/horror/comedy. Who cares about some guy crushing on an idealized girl-next-door (or the fact that she wears Maybelline!) Yes, Ethan has a crush on Sarah, but I consider that a relatively minor aspect of MBAV. Was this song even written with the show in mind, or do the producers just like the band and chose one of their existing songs to plug? Might just as well promote the actresses' singing careers instead then. :P

I assume there's new lyrics now, if Kate and Vanessa are singing it, so I'm happy. Yeah, I usually roll my eyes when shows get their actresses to sing, but at least Kate seems serious about it since her Radio Free Roscoe days... I get the feeling she's more interested in being a singer-songwriter than an actress. (Not that I'm saying she's a bad actress...I like her.)

I finally heard the new theme. It's just the regular theme sung by Vanessa Morgan and Kate Todd. It seems like a good idea, but it's only for the 2 part season finale apparently. Unless there's a season 3.

"Has anyone seen my bucket of plutonium? It's about yay big and is super radioactive."

reply

Yeah, I just heard it too, but I think it's a bad idea. Since they barely changed the lyrics at all! So instead of "she's the girl next door...she's for me" (which is a pretty clunky line already), you've got girls singing "she's the girl next door... that's me." Badly written, changing the perspective/pronoun like that. And I still think the lyrics don't suit the show at all. Nuts. I was hoping for a big change.

reply

Is it on Youtube? I haven't heard it yet. I like Kate Todd as a singer, so I'll probably like this version. I agree that the lyrics don't fit the show too much, but it's a great song nonetheless IMO.

Vanessa Morgan is a singer. She would rather sing then act she has sad numerous times.

Also, she sang the theme song for The Latest Buzz. btw.

reply

I would rather Vanessa sing than act, as well. ;) Although, to be fair, I think her acting has improved this season compared to the first... but she doesn't have Kate Todd's range. (Although, to be fair, again, Kate has much more acting experience.)

I think it fits the show. I prefer that sort of vague opacity to a more obvious theme song that specifically references the supernatural and the shows plot. I feel like the slightly off-pointe lyrics gives a kind of subjectivity that lets the listener come up with their own interpretation as to how it fits the show, and I think that's a bit more satisfying than the song just obviously telling the viewer what the show is about. Instead it kind of makes you think about it. You could say that the story is essentially about the girl next door turning out to be something more. It's essentially about a bunch of kids next door turning out to be something more. Maybe the singing about the narrator crushing on this girl isn't exactly on-pointe, but it could be taken as going beyond the narrator and being about something more than that on another level as well. LOL I don't think I explained that very well.

And I find the song just ridiculously catchy and fun. I think it fits the show in a good, subjective way. I feel like if all theme songs were so predictable then they wouldn't be very fun. I'd rather be surprised with this slightly off-pointe song that you can interpret in other ways.

Oh lord, my dyslexia is acting up again. I read the title and thought it said "New threesome."

I digress, I like the old singer more.

reply

LOL

"Has anyone seen my bucket of plutonium? It's about yay big and is super radioactive."

Haven't heard the new version of the theme yet (though Kate Todd was super hot back then...just had to point that out lol Not sure how hot she is now), but I just wanted to point out, for all the curious people, that the song was in fact written years before the show or movie aired.

It was released by the band Copperpot (same band that did the theme on the show) on The Girl Next Door EP, released in 2006. Was a fan of the band years before the movie or show existed. Sorry if that makes me sound like a hipster ;-) Then the band changed their name to Hathaway Brown, I saw them in concert in 2011, and the singer mentioned how their song got picked as the theme for the movie/show. Which is the whole reason I even knew about the show and thought to check it out (just recently, years later lol Which is how I know Kate Todd is/was so hot lol). So yeah, hope that sheds some light on why the lyrics don't really match what the show is about.

But yeah, big fan of those guys...Copperpot, Hathaway Brown, whatever they call themselves - its all good :-) I love indie/underground/lesser known Power Pop bands like that - big sucker for that sound. Bands/songs that sound like they should be on the radio but aren't for whatever reason (usually timing or music biz politics). Big fan of the song, too. So catchy/hooky. The song and band remind me a lot of Fountains of Wayne (Stacy's Mom), in fact. They were super nice when I went up and talked to them at the show, too (small venue - coffeehouse type place). So just wanted to give them a little "shout" here (since smaller type bands can use all the positive mention/publicity they can get) :-)

"That's the the theme of my movies: The victory of the battered idealist in a cynical world."
