To all of you comparing it to other amnesia films....

Let's start with the fact that this is totally different. Okay, well I will acknowledge the fact that the (don't hover unless you want spoilers) amnesiac has maniacal husband that wants to kill her story is not entirely an common theme. What Lies Beneath (2000) is a perfect example of that. However we can use blanket themes for a bunch of things. Good vs. evil in EVERYTHING from Harry Potter, to Lord of the Rings to Game of Thrones to Star Wars to The Untouchables. That doesn't link them all together. Blanket themes mean nothing in the grand scheme of things.

What makes this different then? Well to begin with it's based on a book, which is in turn based on two real cases (Michelle Philpots and Clive Wearing). The amnesia part. The book focuses on coping with amnesia. Not just wandering around aimlessly.

In the end, read the book, then come back and say it's like "50 Dates from Hell" or Memento. Now I will say that they did fall down on her behaviors, but only because time is a problem when you're making films. She had days of joy, days of sorrow, days of love and days of hate. The movie didn't give us that.

The fact is that it is a real illness and we how many movies and TV shows have you seen with Alzheimer's patients, or AIDS? This is the same thing, a disorder that needs fixing.
