Much better than the first Outrage

I liked Outrage Beyond much more than the first Outrage. The narration is far smoother and the plot doesn't rely on that awful amount of overly-complicated twists and turns so hard to follow. And that's not a killing every 5 seconds, just for the sake of it. To me Beyond is how the first Outrage should've been: more mature, more tight, more entertaining, more compelling.

I liked the first one but this is indeed smoother.

I agree. The first Outrage had minimalist dialogue in the opening scenes which made it seem like an experimental film. Kitano is more experienced than that, so it was a bit annoying. The over the top violence was mind numbing and a few scenes could have been left out or less graphic, but it defeats the purpose of Kitano's yakuza films for his fans.

Perhaps people complained about it from the first Autoreji so Kitano stuck to a more conventional screenplay instead of going for something different.

Do you feel that Takeshi Kitano intentionally scaled back the violence in the sequel - out of personal preference or in response to some of the criticism of the first movie?
