You may say 'who cares' but that's actually quite important. Kitano said in an interview:

“I wouldn’t be too old for this *beep* if ‘Outrage Beyond’ is a big hit. I’d get younger again. Ideally what would happen would be this: ‘Outrage Beyond’ becomes a huge hit, so huge that my producer allows me to make one film I really want to do."

So, yeah. Any news on that?

Well, it's not exactly Avatar dimension but at least it earned twice as much as the predecessor, so I guess you would consider it successful.

As of 30 June 2013, Box Office Mojo reported a total revenue for Outrage approaching USD ten million with USD 8,383,891 in the total worldwide lifetime box office.[9] As of 28 July 2013, Beyond Outrage had receipts more than twice as high, at USD 16,995,152.
