So....

Is this still a review show or just a bunch of ancient old reruns about movies I could give a *beep* less about anymore?

reply

I think the hosts are on vacation. They did something similar with the syndicated show, but it was only for a couple of weeks.

Roger Ebert is still reviewing some of the new releases on the show's website.

Personally, I find the old shows facinating epecially when they talk about how they review a movie.

I'm not sure. But the hosts are setting up each episode so they are still around in some capacity (Unless they pre-set-up all the episodes).

And that's fine if people find the old episodes fascinating, but that's not why I tune in. I want to see new movies reviewed, not archive footage. If they want an archive show it should be its own thing. As it stands, I'm just checking-in to see if they review any new movies, if not, then I just turn it off.

They are on break until the end of September. Ebert posted a schedule of the archive shows a while back:

I don't find the old episodes terribly fascinating. The last two weeks, I've just deleted them without watching more than 5 minutes.

I know I'm not supposed to say it, but there's some terrible decisions being made by the producers of this show. It's a show dependent on weekly/habit watching from the viewer, and they took like 6 weeks off right when the show was hitting a very comfortable stride and, presumably, grabbing viewers. They didn't just let the hosts take a vacation. They basically took the show off the air and replaced it with PBSClassics which don't even showcase why people watched Siskel and Ebert. Why not bring guest critics to at least keep the review part of the show going? And why do the even need to take 6 weeks off? They're film critics filming a weekly half-hour show for goodness sakes.

Ebert mentioned in an update that it's because of pledges and because the PBS season doesn't start until October. But his message and something he posted on Facebook makes me think that part of the reason they're taking this break is to save money...

"If anyone would like to contribute to a Pledge fund specifically for Ebert Presents At The Movies, please contact us."
