Question re GL:TAS and the comics...

I'm a decades-long DC fan with good knowledge of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash and Justice League (comics, animation and live-action movies/TV) and the DCU in general. One character I've never been able to get into is Green Lantern - and as time's gone on the task of trying to has become more daunting (now of course with the mountain of stuff that Johns did). Any knowledge I do have of GL comes from Justice League and occasional crossovers. So... is watching GL:TAS (which I've never seen) a good way of breaking into the world and mythology of Green Lantern? And is the world of GL:TAS pretty consistent with the comics? I have seen the animated movie Green Lantern: First Flight which I enjoyed. Thanks.
