The ending

In the last scene nena seems content back at home in the village. Do we assume that she stays where she is rather than seek a divorce and get back with her old flame?? Not sure if I missed something toward the end...

Yes, in the end Nena came back to the village with her husband Giovanni. She's not going to get back with Francesco, her former boyfriend.
And if we think about the situation, it makes sense. In the end Giovanni had treated her in a better way than Francesco. Giovanni seemed to be a womanizer who had liked Nena since the first time he saw her at the school. Of course, he married her for convenience (the Gypsies were looking for him angrily). But at the same time, he was a gentleman with Nena. She had gone to his house, drunk, in the middle of the night, full of sorrow for Francesco's betrayal. And she had sex with Giovanni. Somebody had seen her leaving his room and she was in trouble now for that reason. Giovanni could have refused to marry her. It was her "shame" and her "honor". But he didn't refuse. She realized that Giovanni had been better to her and she could have a future with him instead of thinking about a future with a man who had left her by letter (Francesco).
