not realistic scene

the scene on the subway at the beginning with the woman staring at him and him staring at her. Now, what in what universe would a woman ever stare at a man for that long of an amount of time which she has never talked to? I don't think that would ever happen, and after staring a little bit, I think she would say something to him if she liked him. but she would just stare for long amount of time and she wouldn't ever stare at a man for that long of an amount of time. any comments about this?

You should learn to flirt with your eyes. You can go long ways without sayng a word!

reply

women never would do that without talking with a man at least a little bit, women are communicators, they have to communicate before they can feel comfortable with being daring with staring at a man. oh and have you ever tried staring at a woman before ever talking to her, it creeps them out, they never like it because they don't know you yet.

reply

lukejbarnett2002...obviously NOT a woman and NOT experienced in the ways of non-verbal communication in the context of flirting. Keep spouting your ignorance, luke. It's amusing.

reply

and keep spouting your stupidity! that's amusing! I've flirted but that wasn't flirting, as there was not one word spoken between them. You can't do that in real life. everybody needs to communicate in order to have any sort of emotional, physical, or sexual closeness. You've watched way too much porn apparently!

reply

I've flirted but that wasn't flirting, as there was not one word spoken between them.

So according to you, flirting is strictly defined in terms of VERBAL communication. NON-VERBAL CUES can also be used as a means of flirtation but you are clearly unaware of that. I pointed out your ignorance of that fact and that makes me "stupid"? LOL!!! Stuck in your adolescent phase, I see.

reply

you're stuck in your stupidity phase, I see. you're idiotic and ignorant to the fact that that never, never happens in real life. a woman won't just sit there and stare at you for like half a minute at a time before talking to you. that has never happened in the history of the world. I'm aware of non verbal communication in terms of flirting, but that still doesn't make what happened in that scene possible or realistic as he hadn't talked to her at all before her looking at him for half a minute stretches.

reply

that has never happened in the history of the world.

you made my day :D

reply

I usually never say LOL, but that totally made me LOL :D

reply

lukejbarnett2002, i don't know if you are a woman to be so absolutely sure that "that has never happened in the history of the world" lol . That's a big statement!
And wrong as well!
I am a woman. I live in London and have been in this situation on the tube a couple of times. It's called flirting with your body, especially with your eyes. It's quite fun.I never acted on it or the other way round (following the guy or guy following me, or not that i am aware of). It happened to a friend of mine too and just before leaving the train, the guy gave her his number and she was quite flattered.
You should try it sometime :)

reply

I take it you watched it too on channel 4, valochouette?

reply

Yes i did.
Not very often there is a really good film like that one on (i don't have cable or things like that so pretty limited!).

I completely agree, these sort of things also happened to me and i'm a guy. Flirting with no words is as interesting and as frequent as flirting with words, it happens all the time. To assume something like non-verbal flirting never happened is a totally non-argumented and unproven assumption. The scene was not unrealistic at all

reply

flash alert, luke. everyone is different.

some women would, some women wouldn't. some men would, others wouldn't. simple as that. it's a movie, and we happen to be watching the moment when it happens, not the million other mornings where nothing happened.

the scene is very realistic. i've been there myself.

reply

no you haven't. you've never experienced this. the reason why is because this has never happened in the history of mankind. you're wrong, the scene is very unrealistic and stupid and retarded.

reply

It's so comforting to know so many imdb posters are absolute experts on things women would and would not do.

reply

lol...I know.

reply

are you being sarcastic?

reply

No I think that you assuming that NO woman in the world would ever stare at a man she's attracted to is completely based in science and not completely unfounded.

reply

thank you

reply

hahaha, you are hilarious :D

are you being a dumbass?

What you don't understand is that Brandon had skill. He's worked at this for a long time. And besides, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, depending on the person. He knew how to stare and make the women feel comfortable. He didn't seem like a creepy perv to me.

Pretty sure any girl would state at Michael Fassbender for a long period of time if he was just eye screwing them!

I will not fear, fear is the mind killer

During the first long scene between Brandon and the red-head she’s visibly uncomfortable about the prolonged eye contact. In real time that would feel like an eternity. Is he flirting? Is he staring? Is he challenging her? To me it seems like a bit of all three. Brandon’s gaze triggers a primitive part of the red-head’s brain; she must approach or retreat, the eyes fixed on her cannot be ignored. She looks away, looks back coyly, licks her lips, crosses her legs, blushes....a battery of feminine moves whilst she decides how to respond to the “invitation”. All the time Brandon continues to pin her down with his gaze and study her in ravenous detail. He is uncompromising. He refuses to make her more comfortable by smiling. When the subway stops she has made her decision: retreat. Brandon stands uncomfortably close behind her yet says nothing. His sexual objectification of women is really apparent in this scene. JMO.

I know people who have seduced and kissed a stranger without saying a word. So the scene seems very realistic to me.

Its called being between a rock and a hard place, she was obviously 100% tempted but that giant rock on her finger is what was holding her back.

You do see it many times, a lot of people toying with the idea. See a hot person who is interested, want to sleep with them so badly but theres something that stops them - usually someone else.
