What do you get from this film?

The impression I walked away with was that these guys just weren't all that good.

It seemed that way when the documentary cuts the soundtrack away from the band's comeback performance and plays some other sad music instead of the actual music being performed. I wanted to hear what his voice actually sounded like after all that abuse and time off and the only tiny bit we got in a practice session didn't sound promising.

"What do you get from this film?"

Don't do drugs.

Sorry for the horrible english. I'm Swedish.

What I got from this is that even though you're an old, washed up, filthy drug addict, you can still get a hot chick as long as you're in a band.

reply

Yeah agree they weren't good that's why they didn't go anywhere AND DON't do drugs!

reply

I think it is absolutely a powerful message against drug abuse.

Pentagram was a really, really excellent metal band. There's no doubt about it. Did they deserve massive, Iron Maiden level fame? Maybe not. But they certainly would have garnered a loyal following had they stuck in there and not been such idiots (well, Bobby anyway).

Films like this should scare the hell out of kids!

His mom said that they had spent A MILLION DOLLARS on him... What was he shopping on ebay or what? Drugs are expensive..

reply

I came away thinking that much of an entertainer's career is based on dumb luck.

While I'm not a fan of Pentagram, they are certainly good enough (or, as his parents said, even BETTER) than many bands that made it big.

My biggest disappointment with the documentary is the lack of actual performance footage shown; I mean, it's such a personal triumph for Bobby, and a dream come true for Pellet, and they show less than 1 minute of actual performance footage with sound (rather than the overdubbed film music).

Maybe the DVD corrects this with extras, but I just found it odd to leave that out. Otherwise, I watch this regularly simply because of the portrait of Bobby that is painted by the film, and to see his personal struggle end in such a positive way - gives us ALL hope.

I didn't go into the film thinking of taking away from it any great message or anything like that.

I just wanted to watch the story and that's exactly what I got.

And, the band was very good.

It is another sad story about what drugs do. Not about tortured souls that is all bull. I was at the show in NY and it sucked and that is why you did not hear it in the movie

Just got the DVD, and while it has a number of deleted scenes, it has no additional concert footage.

Just an FYI for those interested.
