How Marvel mistreats it's Horror properties

Dear Marvel,

Why do you keep messing with your horror fans? you barely publish anything with your classic monsters and when you do you treat us like vapid idiots who only saw a few zeitgeist tropes and aren’t familiar with these characters.

For example in Mrs. Deadpool and The Howling commandos the Frankenstein Monster speaks in simple words and in third person, talking like an early depiction / cartoon universe version of Hulk yet your own Marvel Wiki gives the literary backstory and the “Handbook to the Marvel Universe” bio for him describes him as intelligent and articulate. Someone needs to show you guys the graphic novel published by Marvel and illustrated by Bernie Wrightson. Come on, Even Superhero Squad Online knew the character was supposed to be well spoken and a lover of poetry. He often quotes John Milton. If you’re not familiar with the actual book version of the Frankenstein monster or even some of your own publications I ask you to watch Penny Dreadful or something...

"This reading had puzzled me extremely at first, but by degrees I discovered that he uttered many of the same sounds when he read as when he talked. I conjectured, therefore, that he found on the paper signs for speech which he understood, and I ardently longed to comprehend these also; but how was that possible when I did not even understand the sounds for which they stood as signs? I improved, however, sensibly in this science, but not sufficiently to follow up any kind of conversation, although I applied my whole mind to the endeavour, for I easily perceived that, although I eagerly longed to discover myself to the cottagers, I ought not to make the attempt until I had first become master of their language, which knowledge might enable me to make them overlook the deformity of my figure, for with this also the contrast perpetually presented to my eyes had made me acquainted." - The creature in the novel Frankenstein and the graphic novel version published by Marvel in 1983, illustrated by Bernie Wrightson.

Look at that verses the version in the Howling Commandos (in regard to seeing ghostly Deadpool that the others can’t) “Frankenstein See you.”

Seriously, put down the black and white movie and pick up the book or your own older comics you illiterate Gothic Horror newbies!

And tell whoever transformed “Frank” (who used to match the novel but was turned into this idiot) that he answers to the name Adam! It’s based on a quote from the actual novel. “I should have been thy Adam but instead I am the fallen angel.” I’ll take that literary quote and again match it to his “eloquence in his latest comics “Frankenstein thank friend.”

Can you not understand my frustration? IDW has two comic book series with the Frankenstein monster. They have Frankenstein Alive Alive, which is a direct sequel to the Bernie Wrightson Marvel graphic novel of 1983. And Madman & Monster. Both are intelligent creatures with long black hair and no flat head. They resisted that weird urge to surrender to zeitgeist tropes. They RESPECTED the source material. ...As Marvel once did...

Why are you letting people write for him who only know the Universal studios movies?

Also since 2010 we have dealt with red armor, high pony tail, white haired Dracula. He looks like a slightly pale drow that escaped Dungeons and Dragons. The version you have in X-men ‘92 looks much better. This current version doesn’t even really feel like a vampire. In fact in the current cartoon universe his skin is slightly blue. Why?

Now let us talk about Morbius. In 2013 you gave him his own new comic book series but it was like a plot originally written for Luke Cage or some other prominently inner-city angst driven excon character and someone went through the script with “Find and Replace” to insert Morbius. Such was the generic nature of the plot...

Also why isn’t Morbius in the current incarnation of The Howling Commandos? It’s practically a cross between Legion of Monsters and the Midnight Sons yet no Morbius? You can’t possibly blame the character for that terrible story you gave him in 2013. No character could have carried that.

You had all the vampires of the X-Men ‘92 universe turned human and indicated it might lead to something big and it just quietly petered out. What the Hell happened?!

In the Ultimate Spider-Man animated series you had Morbius as a Hydra agent who gets punished by being turned into a man bat! And to think we used to taunt that the hand suckers was a way of neutering the vampire. Now he’s not even a vampire at all. Just an ugly Hydra agent with wings.

Last year’s Ultimate Spider-Man animated series Halloween special was a cross-over with a Disney Channel sitcom about a young Nanny called Jessie. ...Why? What does that have to do with Halloween??!?

And then you disappointed me further by making a big deal of the “event” that is Monsters Unleashed, utterly forgetting that the last comics to have that title were about the old school creatures like Dracula, Man-Thing, manfibian, Living Mummy, ect...

Superhero Squad online hid all it’s playable monsters - Frankenstein’s Monster, Dracula, and werewolf by Night years ago but at least Werewolf by Night still was released once a month regularly until they announced that the game is shutting down forever.

Marvel Heroes 2016 only has Blade as a playable and he comes off as crazy, going on about vampires while there are no vampire henchmen or bosses in the game. otherwise Marvel Heroes has no sign of the Horror Monsters of Marvel.

Isn’t it bad enough you turned the Asgardians into “Aliens” and won’t even mention that the Dark Elves are vulnerable to iron except in Marvel Heroes)?

My point is this. I have the distinct feeling that those in charge at Marvel currently do not like or respect their Gothic / Supernatural properties and as a long time fan of the horror characters of Marvel it’s really depressing.

You now have Ghost Rider and The Darkhold on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and all I can think is “How are they going to screw this up? Is Ghost Rider just a delusional Inhuman? Is the Darkhold no longer the Marvel version of the Necronomicon but instead some alien artifact? How are you going to ruin this? It’s so good so far so how are you going to destroy it?”

Please, Marvel. I’m losing faith. As a fan of the Gothic Horror side of Marvel I am tired and impatient. When will you respect this genre again?
