off the mark (spoilers)

Sorry to be a Grinch, but I didn't think the actors in this movie were funny-they don't have comic ability and, in my opinion, were straining to be funny.
And what's with the two white-haired older men being married to much younger-looking women? They look more like the grandfathers of the children, rather than their fathers. I know it could happen, but it stood out too much and wasn't part of the plot.

The photography and sets looked low-budget. The movie seemed like a film set in America made in a foreign country --off the mark much of the time. I didn't think America was that hard to replicate, but it looked as if the moviemakers have never been over the border. The houses and clothing just don't look like what you'd see in California--not to mention the tell-tale Canadian accents much of the time. The blond wife's dowdy wardrobe was especially bad--it looked as if someone went to a thrift store and said, "Here, wear this." And the parlor game with a man being "Elfy"--that just doesn't sound typically American.

Please, Hallmark, if you're going to continue making movie after movie in Canada, but pretending they're in America, try to get the details right! People notice.

Well it is a "MADE FOR TV" movie so of course the budget isn't going to be that big.

Not only that but its just a christmas movie made for tv. I noticed the other stuff too but not enough to bother me. I watched it for what it was and enjoyed it.

HA HA - I totally agree. As soon as it started, I thought it looked like houses around my neighbourhood, and nothing like houses you typically see in America. (About 5 minutes in I realized it was filmed in my neighbourhood - Yup, that would be why they looekd like houses around my neighbourhood!)

My argument is not that the movie was filmed in Canada, but the fact that it was probably filmed in the summer when the trees were in full leaf. I expect British Columbia in the winter might be an inhospitable climate for filming, but it just looks so fakey.

Actually, Vancouver is fine. It may rain a lot.... but it is very temperate. It's almost January right now and it has been mostly around 10 degrees (celsius, approx. 50 F)

I noticed the age difference as well, I thought the fathers looked too old to have kids that age. Also, some of the acting seemed fake/forced, especially with the kids (but it could have simply been a script issue). Other than that I thought it was a pretty good Christmas movie, I even laughed aloud at some parts.

You don't think Daniel Stern and Matt Frewer have comic ability?? Are you familiar with the body of work between these two?? C'mon, obviously this is a low-budget direct to TV movie, but those two were very big comedic character actors in the '80s and '90s.
