Letter to the new Movie Mac Editor

In the unlikely event that someone associated with the show stumbles in here... I implore you to refrain from putting Elvira's magic mirror in the righthand corner of the screen. Two reasons for this. First and foremost, in the right corner she's apt to be obscured by a network logo -- I gnash my teeth every time the local network pops their logo on-screen during her show. Second reason is that I (and many others, I'm sure) have started DVRing and scanning the show but it's difficult to keep track of both sides of the screen when you're watching in fast-foward just to catch Elvira's one-liners. I love classic movies but I've seen most of the crap she's currently running before (most have lapsed into public domain for good reason) -- and they were a chore to sit through in their entirety once.

I love the movies that Elvira makes fun of. I've seen "The Terror" a few times (an underrated classic, in my opinion) but I had a lot of fun revisiting it with Elvira as the host.

As for the Elvira "pop ups", I'd much prefer if they just completely stopped the movie and just appeared on screen to deliver her one-liners. But I'll take new Elvira stuff in any shape or form, so it's all good.

I watched "The Terror" live as it aired, which was the third time I'd seen the movie (I don't recall what possessed me to watch it the second time) and that's what made me decide to just start DVR'ing the show and scanning it later. There's some really nice cinematography and the old crone was campy enough, but overall I find the film tedious. Would've been better as a 25 minute short, in my opinion... and God knows, there's enough stretches when nothing's happening that it could easily be whittled down.

I actually kinda like Elvira's magic mirror, just not that it randomly switches sides. She's stopped the action dead to comment in the past while hosting other (more interesting) films, and it was sort of stultifying. And I readily admit that I got some genuine chuckles from the ridiculous subtitles during "The Giant Gila Monster." I'm absolutely enjoying having Elvira back, just not the films themselves. Though I've never seen tonight's "The Werewolf of Washington," so I'll have to give it a fair chance.

Looks like somebody listened, cuz I didn't notice her on the right of the screen at all during "The Werewolf of Washington" (which I watched in its entirety cuz I hadn't seen -- and actually sorta liked). Thank you!

So in case I can stretch my two cents any further... Assuming the roster's not locked, I would really like to see one of the more unwatchable upcoming films dropped (many to choose from, but my top picks are "Wild Women of Wongo" and "Teenagers From Space") and replaced with "Spider Baby or, The Maddest Story Ever Told." Seems the film is in public domain, it's wonderfully weird, quirky and creepy and I'd love to see Elvira's take on it. It's on the Internet Archive but there's better prints available:

And another film that'd fit right in is the tedious yet hypnotically surreal "Death Bed: The Bed That Eats," though I'm not certain if it's in public domain or not. Made in the early '70s, "Death Bed" never got legit distribution until 2003 but it wound up leaked and bootlegged worldwide for decades without the knowledge of the writer/director -- even if it's not in public domain, I'd guess the director would probably be so thrilled to get more exposure for the oddball curio that he'd charge little or nothing to run it. This one actually doesn't mean much to me (unlike "Spider Baby") but it popped into my head and seems like a good fit for the new "Movie Mac."

Have to agree about Spider Baby, one of my favorite public domain movies (Spider Baby was pretty easy on the eyes too).. another one I'd recommend is Vincent Price's "Last Man on Earth" a decent adaptation of Richard Matheson's "I Am Legend".
