Will this be as bad as Earthsea, Tin Man, and Riverworld?

Considering it's on the Syphilis Channel? Most definitely.

I hate all syfy originals, with the exception of a few fantasy features. One being Tin Man, the other being Alice. I think they're very creative on their takes with these stories. Can't wait for Neverland.

To me, that basically means you "hate" all of them, except their *bad* ones. Yikes.

SciFi has some good stuff before it came SyFy, including miniseries like Dune, Taken, BSG and BSG Razor and the Farscape: the Peacekeeper Wars. It had good tv shows like Farscape and BSG. It even has some decent tv shows on now, most especially Alphas, which I'd put as one of the top 10 shows on television.

Really, two of the worst three or four things SciFi/SyFy's ever done would be Tin Man and especially Alice.

reply

I agree. I don't understand this new SyFy channel. I can't stand Ghost Hunters... yuck. Alphas and Being Human are the only reasons I still hang on to this channel - I can't even get into Sanctuary... don't know why

Actually, the reviews I've seen in the newspapers have been glowing with praise. I'll reserve my judgement until I've seen it.

Tin Man was soooooo bad... it was just plain painful! I am a huge oz fan and the concept of variations on Oz appeals to me, but that crap was just utterly vomit inducing.

reply

You thought "Tin Man" was good. We now know not to trust your opinion.
Then again, you're an anime fan. You are a natural born connoisseur of crap.

Tin Man wasn't bad.

GUH! Let's not ask about Earthsea. I get twinges in my eyeball every time I think about that bastardization...

I liked Tin Man and Alice. Both were done by Nick Willing who also did Neverland. So I was happy with the outcome. And I liked Riverworld (2000 version). The more recent version was a bit more true to the books but it didn't work that well for me.

reply

Hey, Tin Man was good. I actually had to buy that one...and Neverland was better than I expected.

reply

Amazingly -- no. It was so much better than their usual programs that I'm wondering if SF actually made the series and didn't buy it off BBC or ITV?

reply

You're sort of right Lopsided55 - SyFy didn't make this, it was made by Sky Movies in the UK and just shown on the SyFy channel in the US

There have been some good shows on the Sci-Fi channel before the name change. They had Battlestar Galactica, Tin Man, Alice (2009), Warehouse 13, Eureka, and Farscape. Now, it's just a crap channel.
