Music nowadays is really bad, really BAD!!!!!

Take a look at the MTV Video Music Awards from all the early years of the 80's & 90's & you have really good bands who were on this show. Nirvana, Hole, Pearl Jam, Aerosmith, Madonna, Marilyn Manson, The Rolling Stones, STP, REM, Poison and so on & so on. This show is crap now. When the Much Music hosts talk about an EPIC performance coming up by Drake, Who????. What a piece of crap hip hop is. All these female artists nowadays are just trampy sluts. How is a young person supposed to watch this show anymore. I don't want my 12 year old listening to this host Chelsea Handler talking about someone sitting on my face or the other crap she is spewing. Thank god I grew up with real music not this garbage.

You're joking right? Trampy sluts? Madonna invented the trampy, slutty popstar.

The 80's wanted so badly to be the future. 2010 is the future.

reply

Madonna is the biggest female entertainer in the history of music. These clowns like Rhianna, Gaga, Kesha, Miley, are all sluts.

It sucks that MTV doesn't play music videos anymore; even VH1, who plays more music videos then MTV does, is starting to go down hill.

I haven't seen a music video on VH1 in probably 5 years.

"You've shown your quality sir. The very highest."

reply

agree

reply

Florence & The Machine and B.o.B. so far have been the best performances, for me. I think both are legitimately talented. Everyone else sucks though.

I'm glad to see 30 Seconds To Mars still around, too.

It's sad because there is a lot of awesome music right now, but none of that will be represented by MTV. They are the network of The Hills and Jersey Shore now. What does that tell you?

reply

You tell me what is awesome with music today?. This garbage that Kanye is singing right now is a large representation of music gone REALLY bad. That was 2 hour & 15 minutes that I will never get back again. What a waste of time that was.

You seem to have your mind made up about it, so why did you watch the show? Not trying to be pesky, but that's my question.

You have to look OUTSIDE of all of this crud to find the good music. The underground bands, international artists, unsigned solo artists, ones who are just simply underrated.

You just avoid the iTunes Top 100, isitin, and I promise you might find something worth listening to. That's what this show consisted of. But I do agree that the old stuff is classic and cannot be compared to. I just will not give up on today's music yet. I can't lose hope.

mtv has been dead to me since 1997 when they stoped playing rock videos.right now they have only a few shows worth watching.

Tonight's show is proof on how bad music has really gotten

reply

That's what sucks now about music, everybody is trying to be a *beep* pop artist, even rappers now. Mainstream Hip Hop, Rock, Alternative, and Pop have all taken a severe turn for the worst from where they were because of artists trying to make music for the music, everyone is thinking "what *beep* can i put out that 13 year old girls will run and buy". Artists these days sell their music on gimmicks rather than actual talent and to make things worse you have an audience that buys into this *beep*

reply

Mainstream is what sells now. You can't fault them for wanting to make money. It's their job. What's so wrong with mainstream?

reply

What is so wrong with it????. The whole show tonight was wrong. All that music was crap. Listen to music from years gone by. Bands used to make EPIC albums. When was the last EPIC album last made?, years ago.

The best female video catetory was:

Beyoncé (featuring Lady Gaga) — "Video Phone (Extended Remix)"
Kesha — "Tik Tok"
Lady Gaga — "Bad Romance"
Katy Perry (featuring Snoop Dogg) — "California Gurls"
Taylor Swift — "Fifteen"

None of these songs or videos were any good. It goes to show you how thin the talent pool has gotten.

reply

Bad Romance is a great song and one of the best videos of all time.
California Girls is a catchy summer pop song with a really sexy video.

The 80's wanted so badly to be the future. 2010 is the future.

reply

Im 29 and I like a few current top 40 songs out there. Enrique's new song is good. Fun and entergetic. I really liked La Roux's Bulletproof over the summer. But I agree, overall music is godawful now, and especially over the last decade. And Rock music is even worse. The current pop music scene is better than the curent rock scene.

There are a lot of factors to the downfall of the quality of music. MTV going on the air is one of them. Sure, the 80s and 90s still had great music along with great videos. But after time the "image" factor became the only thing you needed to get a recording contract over the last decade. And that doesnt explain how Kesha got a recroding contract. She is insanely ugly with no talent. Yet the funny thing is MTV doesnt show music videos anymore, so in a way image shouldnt be as big a priority as it use to be.

I really dont know how the overall current music scene will get good again. Nobody is making great albums anymore. Its all about downloading that one mp3 single. You can just make the rest of your album as filler.

And the age thing does have some merits. The older generation thinks Rap is all crap, yet in reality there were a lot of talented rap artists in the 80s and 90s.
But I hear 15 year olds saying the current music scene is godawful, so it isnt all about age here in this instance.

reply

"Oh and Aerosmith? I personally think they are the trashiest band ever. They did a terrible cover of Come Together. BUT that's real music."

LOL, well this opinion is in the minority. That cover is good, and most would agree.

reply

I like Eminem. He is very talented. I do like some music that is out now. I am 50 but I do have a lot of alternative Cd's. I like The Birthday Massacre. I was the oldest person at a couple of their concerts. I like Lady Gaga to an extent. There is a lot of music that I do like, but there was a lot of performers last night who I thought sucked.

It's all subjective though. What you might think is good music someone might think is trash.

After Eminem the entire show sucked.
No, the Eminem part of the show is what SUCKED the most. Eminem is old and played out, all his songs sound the same, and he can't come up with anything new anymore, not that it was all that original to begin with. First he makes a bunch of songs with negative references to homosexuals (if you talk about homosexuality as much as someone like he did, it's likely because he's got latent homosexual tendencies) then he sings with Elton John trying to smooth things over, like that somehow proved he didn't mean all that gay hatred. He wrote lyrics like a freshman. By the time he finally started to grow up, no one gave a crap anymore, he's tired and OOOLLLDDD.

I agree, why don't people understand that peoples opinions on music is subjective? Is that so hard to understand?

reply

Don't call me old man. If you like this crap than you can listen to it. I'm not the only person who is posting here that feels the music is garbage. And you know what people your age feel exactly the same way I feel.

Watching the VMAs this year the biggest problem for me is that they expose the fact that there really isn't any wider variety within music that sells very well nowadays and that is largely down to commercial machines like MTV that restrict their, already diminished, playlists to the same damn artists again and again.

The lack of rock acts (compare the clapped out Linkin Park or that vanity band 30 Seconds to Mars to the days of Metallica, Guns N Roses, Pearl Jam, Nirvana even Neil Young performing and winning prizes on the show), the increasingly bland genres of Hip Hop and RnB etc. They're becoming more and more an accurate reflection of commercial music....lacking.

reply

What else can they be called?
