This movie was so NY!

The setting, the characters, their unconventional ways... and because of that, I love it! The great cast didn't hurt either!

Indeed. This makes me miss my friends in the city.

It is! I feel like Jennifer Westfeldt is VERY New York, she always captures the attitude and way of life perfectly in her NY performances! Love that woman!

Reminded me of 70s films that are set in NYC (especially An Unmarried Woman')

It makes me miss the big city for so many reasons. The cool friends, the unique relationships you make, the city, the theater, the crazy weather, from the big city of Manhattan to the brownstones in Brooklyn. This was a great movie. It was fun, smart, romantic, and I love that its all about family. I hope people get why Jennifer Westfeldt loves New York. I know that she owes a lot to it. From my experience in NY, I'm sure it gave her a tremendous amount of training as an actress, great schools and exposure to amazing art, the challenge of a competitive industry, and amazing talent. I will always love NY for these reasons. It's got incredible energy that builds character, guts, and a good network - all of which Jennifer possesses. I would love to see Jennifer in her new New York stage play, The Explorer's Club. I'm sure that is a cool experience to see her performing her city.

Yes, yes, yes! What a great city! And beautifully captured in this movie - the setting, the people, the energy, the modern point of view, and the lifestyle. NY City people are more progressive in their thinking, they speak more aggressively and sometimes can be blunt. They are also very sensitive characters. I feel like it's a city where you can make some great longtime friends. It's nice to see a NY film that truly captures its character and essence.
Btw, I saw Jennifer in 'The Explorer's Club.'Such a cool experience to see her perform in the city that is the setting for everything she loves!

Lmao more progressive???

Not! Try people from the western seaboard (not those phonies from LA though), And Colorado. There's some actual progressive places. I don't think u understand the meaning of the term.

Yuck. I'm so sick of movies being set in New York and the big cities of Cali. I'm even getting sick of movies set in San Francisco.

Here's an idea...let's start having the setting where the majority of Americans live. OTHER CITIES! I'm so sick of seeing New York and LA.

And to the OP, the characters aren't "so NY". They're average, every day people. I know many people exactly like them. God New Yorkers are the worst self centered entitled people ever!

Gdub33: Maybe you should watch Tyler Perry movies.. Mostly all of them are in Atlanta.

Yes! It's so steeped in NY culture. And I agree the ensemble cast really makes this film spectacular.
