Disrespectful to adoptive parents?

She kept disowning her parents. Even the boyfriend said "you're not her father". Wtf? How is he NOT her father? He raised her since infancy, protected her, sacrificed for her, so all of the sudden he and his wife don't matter and are nothing bc they're not blood-related?

I agree with jinxmchue. I haven't seen this movie in a while but I believe they were portraying the characters as imperfect humans dealing with a very emotionally charged situation and they all worked it out in the end.

"My best friend was born in a manger!"

The film's more disrespectful to adoptees.

In a way it is disrespectful to her adoptive parents, but unless you've really been in the shoes of an adopted person, its hard to explain.

She wasn't told that she was adopted, thus the betrayal that she felt since she now knew that her parents weren't biological related to her thus it majorly hurts inside. I know from experience that being told you are adopted does help lessen the hurt and anger that you are wanted by someone even if that person is not related to you.

In addition, the boyfriend took his cues on how to act from his girlfriend. Even though, not biologically related, from experience her father is her father even if she denies it. The girl is going through a really hard time processing every fact that she learned and is taking it out on the closest people to her, which happens to be the parents who have raised and taken care of her since she was a baby.
