What did she hope to gain by meeting her birth mother?

It seemed like she just was hoping for an apology. Or a declaration of "I regret it, I wanted you". but the woman (NOT mother to her) didn't. I know the scene in the end where she wrote her that note shows the woman DID feel regret and remorse bc she's crying but that doesn't change her feelings of not ever wanting her or her brother. Why couldn't the girl just leave it alone and accept that her mother didn't want her, but those "people" who she stopped calling her parents DID want her and loved her?

She needed closure of some kind. She was probably desperately trying to find out why she wasn't wanted and whether or not her life really meant anything. Remember that she was contemplating suicide before finding out about the attempted abortion so imagine what that bombshell must have done to her. Her search for her birth mother may not have been entirely rational but human emotions rarely are. If I were in her position, I'd imagine that I'd have similar longings to understand and make some sort of peace with my origins.
