Who's from Benson?

I see this film is having its U.S. premiere at the wonderful old DeMarce Theatre in Benson, Minnesota. Benson's in west central Minnesota, more than one hundred miles from a major metropolitan area. Anybody know why it was chosen? I believe one of the filmmakers has a local connection. Which one? This is my neck of the woods and I'd love to show up in a rented limo...:)

I just went and saw it in Benson tonight. It was a very big deal for our little town to have a movie screening here. Nick Smith's Father is from Benson and Nick spent some time here growing up. They still have family and friends here. The family was at the screening tonight and Nick said that he has good memories of the DeMarce Theater and visiting Benson.

The DeMarce Theater was recently purchased by a local family and they are doing their best to keep the theater going and entertainment available for our little town.

Just for the record, I think the movie was very good! It had a lot of suspense without fake movie blood. It will leave you with discussion topics for a while to come. Everyone will have their ideas of what they would do or wouldn't do in the same situation. My husband and I went together and we both enjoyed it. I also enjoyed the way that it highlighted local urban legends which so many parts of the country have and most kids grow up hearing. Lots of fun!!

I am the new owner of the DeMarce. This wasn't the premiere of the movie...it was simply a screening. Nick and his dad, Jeff, wanted to get feedback from an audience prior to the premiere at the Scarecrow Festival in St. Charles, IL. They were coming up here this summer on "vacation", and wanted to get some feedback.

It was an honor for our little town to have this movie shown here. Nick greeted the crowd and spoke to them prior to each showing.

People remember Jeff and had great memories of his mother, Char. Nick did include some local names like "Kirkhoven"---a little town near here, Kerkhoven. Ron Claussen and Scott Claussen are character names in the movie, and they are names of REAL people that Nick knows from his summer-time spent in this area.

People found this movie to be very suspenseful. Many people commmented on the excellent use of music to help build suspense. They loved the small cast of main characters...they felt so close to them, as if the audience was part of the movie. Nick used many unexpected twists and turns in the movie also.

Go see this movie! It will make you think and give you a great conversation piece afterwards! You'll want to see it again and again to see if you "missed" anything! Great Job Nick! I'm so honored to have met you!

Sorry about using the wrong term Premier instead of screening. My appologies again.

I'm not trying to sound ignorant, even though it will sound like it.

But WHAT movie did you and the poster before you see ? This is "great" ??? How and what part of it, made it enjoyable ???

I am from IL if you read and I felt bad for myself for making time to watch this.

I agree. This movie was crap, even though I like crappy movies and also from Illinois.

Yea, what they said.
