Trivia says he was arrested; was this real at all

I'm confused as to whether some parts of this are real or what the deal is with whether it's pure fiction or not... I mean, in the trivia section it says he got arrested for filming this. So, parts of it actually were real? Maybe some of the robberies? I'm sure a lot was staged, but if it was as fictional as paranormal activity no one would be getting arrested for the filming of the movie. Sorry if it seems like a dumb question. When people post in the Blair witch project thread and ask "so is this real" I get so annoyed but in this case I really am not sure. I'm sure the murder and stuff was staged, as well as the initial "rolls and coke" robbery

It seems that it was so realistic that it could be confused as real activity going down, especially with the shooting. They most likely just took to the streets without any permissions or licenses and probably drew real attention from police and locals. Whether this is real or not, I believe it comes about as close to the real thing as anybody could get.

In an interview, the director, Damon Russell, says he was unfairly arrested simply for being associated with the people in the film.
