About the ending in the first episode (Spoiler warning)

In the very last scene of the first part, when Johannes and his ex-girlfriend have found their ways back to each other and happily and in love drives away to their new life together, the viewer suddenly sees how the car starts going slower and slower and how Johannes is seen sitting all stiff in front of the wheel?
Sarah, sitting beside him in the car, notice this and says "Johannes?, Johannes?", looking at him with a puzzled expression on her face but without him giving any responsce but continuing to just sit all stiff while the car goes slower and slower and eventually stops. Then, Sarah looks terrified at him, loosens her seatbelt and rushes out of the car over to his side - And right then the movie ends.

What happened? Did he die or something?

At first I figured that maybe he changed his mind and instead wanted to go back to that other girl, what her name were again, but the whole scene was so odd in that he just sat there all stiff without any reaction what so ever and she rushing over to his side locking panicked, plus, they just moments earlier being so obviously back together and in love.
Perhaps an explanation was given in the second episode? I only watched the first and the third, so maybe I missed it?

There was no explanation given in the second movie. I think it's supposed to be open to interpretation why Johannes reacted the way he did in the car.

The movie was just a pile of excrement. Boring and stupid script. I don't mind watching good drama but this isn't. It didn't help that the main characters were *beep* and highly annoying. I watched this because some review mentioned Twin Peaks in it.. oh boy, this was MILES away from Twin Peaks. Spoiler!!! I wished that the girl would get killed, and kind of called it long before it happened.. too bad that the ahole guy survived, I wished that he would crash the car, but no. I can't understand why this gets so good reviews and points.. maybe the other 2 movies are better, but I doubt it. Solid 3/10 from me.

If you listen what song starts to play in the car, then you'd understand why he froze. Hint: "cry me a river", you heard it twice in this movie. How did you miss this detail?
