Saw it and loved it!

I just saw this movie today and absolutely loved it! keep in mind I've seen most of the well known martial arts movies, and I wasn't impressed by Crouching Tiger and Hidden Dragon or the other Donnie Yen's highly acclaimed Yip Man movies, but I did enjoy this one tremendously! It's so refreshing and unique, and it has very high production value. There is a 8-min trailer flowing around the web which gives you a good feel of the movie. I wasn't a Donnie Yen fan before but this movie definately changed my opinions about him as an actor, he has improved his acting skills a lot in his recent films. Takeshi Kaneshiro was also very impressive! I'd not be surprised if this movie wins some major awards for the two. The other supporting cast were great too! There aren't many fight scenes but the few ones exist are all awesome, most interestingly, it's how the director combined the fight scenes with story telling that makes this movie so unique and memorable, as shown in the first 30 mins of the film (or in the trailer), but this is one of those movies that fight scenes are secondary, it's the story, directing, and great acting that really shine.

Go see this movie and you won't be disappointed. This is the kind of movie that redefines the genre and will be remembered for a long time to come.

Whoa... You didn't like Yip Man?!? We disagree on that one.
Anyway, I will see this movie too. Sounds good(plus I'm a Donnie Yen fan).

Loved it too, great story, great action! Big fan of Donnie Yen and it didnt disappoint (well, I found the climax of the final fight a bit strange). Thought the fight with the 2 guys near the beginning was excellent (the real one, not the one where he got swung like a noodle lol) and the music really complemented it - reminded me a little of the matrix fights.

Simply superb. No time to breathe during this one.

I loved the film as well! 1 thing I notice about HK movies, they're either flashy or just random quick cut action films. & they work well for HK & many action films but I like films that have a contemplative mood you know? This film, from the getgo had that mood. It was like watching an old oil painting, it was very very rich in color, mood, & the pacing. It reminded me of many film noirs of Hollywwod classic or a Japanese film. Often, HK films feel very crowded, almost suffocating. This films had the breadth of something I have not seen in the HK films I have watched. I really am very impressed with the director, I look forward & will look for his films from now on! I hope there are other HK films of this type, can anyone recommend me some films? I also like period pieces, I like the dreamy landscape yet it was very potent portraying a dark foreboding mood somewhat.

I couldn't get my head round it, sadly. Shame as I usually love Hong Kong action films. Found a lot of the newer ones to look good but drag.
