Incredible, beautiful film

I just finished watching The Wise Kids (2011). Directed by Stephen Cone, the film stars Tyler Ross, Molly Kunz, Allison Torem, and Stephen Cone. The film tells the story of three teenaged friends at a small conservative Baptist church in the South who are wrestling with questions of doubt and sexuality. This is one of the most authentic, honest, sincere, and empathetic films I have ever seen. The director does an amazing job at telling the characters' stories without judgment, mockery or condemnation. There are no villains here, just people trying to figure out who they are and where their lives are headed. The film is never preachy and doesn't push any agenda or lecture the audience. It feels real and we are allowed to connect with and care about all the characters. The performances are fantastic. All three lead teens are very believable and give natural performances. The director, Stephen Cone, also has a significant role in the film and is excellent. The screenplay is really well written and true to life. The Wise Kids is a beautiful, heartfelt film, that is smart, sweet, and satisfying. We need more films like this. Very highly recommended. My rating is a high 9/10.
