Not at Netflix for some reason...

When I try to put this movie into my queue at Netflix, it doesn't recognize this movie which is strange. Even if a movie hasn't been released to theaters or to DVD, it should still come up and allow you to save it for a later date. Netflix also allows you to search for movies by production staff or cast members but the result is the same for The Wise Kids: nothing. I also tried to slightly change the title to just Wise Kids but still to no avail. Any ideas on what's going on?

I think the film is still in limited release. I hope it breaks out into a general public in theaters and on Netflix because it is an amazingly well done, realistic, humane film that doesn't condescend to its audience nor treat any of its distinctly Christian characters as freak. That's what happens to frequently in movies: Christians are either secretly evil hypocrites or smarmy wimps. Cone's directing and acting reveals a much more earthbound scene.

I saw this at Ragtag Cinema in Columbia MO with a large audience on hand for the film as part of a series of American low-budget indies. Even my atheist seatmate was impressed. We agreed that the animosity between Christians and glbtq folks is something that can be lowered if realistic--not candy-coated nor preachy--images of both are available for general audiences to see.

There was a productive Q&A with Cone, who explained how his own background as a Preacher's Kid in the South allowed him to observe and learn how to understand and write about the adults around him, s well as his own emerging gay self.

Tell folks about it

When I put "The Wise Kids" in Netflix now I get "Wise Kids is unavailable to stream".

I get this message a lot lately! I've Been with Netflix for over 25 years now and this is getting frustrating. I'm thinking of dropping Netflix since I can't find anything I WANT to watch. Netflix is rapidly becoming useless.

By the way, years ago when Netflix was mostly only in the San Francisco area we didn't have streaming yet but DVDs were $20 a month for 4 out at a time and the turn around time was two days. You could get 8 movies a week, up to 36 movies a month for that $20! For $20 today you get 3 Blu-ray discs with a three day turnaround and no streaming included.
