Donnie as action director

I have to say I'm disappointed...no disrespect to Donnie but in choreography he can't hold a candle to the grandmasters of HK cinema. Especially in a fantasy movie as such, since he's known for his gritty MMA style. Where's Tony Ching? Nonetheless I'm hoping for a surprise...

I hope you're right. I think Donnie's performance will hold a lot of weight here; if the fighting's good, the story can take care of itself.

It's true that some of the old guys seem to be losing their touch...as evident in the mediocre True Legend. Maybe the duties of a complete film director took its toll on Ba Yeh. But I think Ching is the most reliable guy for making fantasy fight sequences, and with his expertise on wirework this film just seemed like a great foil for him.

I haven't seen Twins Effect. I have mixed feelings for DTG; some of the major moves were very well shot in slow mo, but most of the action just wasn't intricate enough for my liking. Still, he does deserve props; I'm not sure I've seen such a blend of MMA/CGI/Wire fu before.
