Can go from good to great with one fix...
So far this show is a keeper. Like any sketch show it's hit and miss, but there were many more hits than misses.
Bill Simmons from ESPN put it best yesterday though; the show needs to open with some topical jokes on that weekend's action. Open with an actual mention of the Pats loss to the Jets, then the Brady/Belicheck skit gets elevated even higher.
Late night talk shows make topical monologues nightly. The Daily Show finds decade old clips to skewer politicians nightly. With TWO days prep I don't see why they couldn't do a Headlines type segment.
It would make the show feel fresh, be a snapshot for that period in time, and let them save and spread out their sketch material. It's a win-win for the quality (and cost) of the show...hopefully that's something for down the road...
