Can go from good to great with one fix...

So far this show is a keeper. Like any sketch show it's hit and miss, but there were many more hits than misses.

Bill Simmons from ESPN put it best yesterday though; the show needs to open with some topical jokes on that weekend's action. Open with an actual mention of the Pats loss to the Jets, then the Brady/Belicheck skit gets elevated even higher.

Late night talk shows make topical monologues nightly. The Daily Show finds decade old clips to skewer politicians nightly. With TWO days prep I don't see why they couldn't do a Headlines type segment.

It would make the show feel fresh, be a snapshot for that period in time, and let them save and spread out their sketch material. It's a win-win for the quality (and cost) of the show...hopefully that's something for down the road...

The problem is that the second they start mentioning actual events or outcomes, they have to pay dues to the respective sports leagues.
