IFC sucks

I can't believe IFC is butchering independent films with commercials so they can pay for this show. Just not funny. You can tell they really want to be like The Daily Show but they just don't have the chops.

Apples and oranges I guess, because that was the most hilarious thing i have seen in awhile. How can you compare this to the Daily Show? It's not even remotely similar. Jon Stewart makes fun of current events, this show more like a parody.

reply

I love this show. There's no comparison between Onion News and The Daily Show. The Onion News is more a parody of CNN, FOX News, HLN, etc.

reply

Like the Daily Show USED to be. Fake news.

I remember when The Daily Show first started, people were accusing them of "trying to be like The Onion, but not as witty." (actual quote)

reply

IFC is the best channel on TV.

reply

Exactly. It's better compared to Reno 911 than Daily Show.

The closest thing I can compare it to, were the news casts on SCTV back in the 80's.

I hate that IFC resorted to commercials. It violates the very meaning of showing indie film IMO. I really don't care for this show. I do think that it is interesting in that they are willing to show Americans that ANYONE with the resources can produce a newscast that looks as professional as CNN, FOX News or CNBC. Other than that, I think it's pretty dumb.

You're wrong. It's funny.

And for the OP, it's not trying to be like The Daily Show. The Daily Show is mostly political stand up, where as ONN is a parody.

The Onion has been around longer than The Daily Show -- although not this particular Onion TV show. I remember reading the Onion's "newspaper" 20 years ago, and I think they've had a website for at least 10 or 15 years.

Even The Onion is not that original, either. It probably copied a bit from the "Harvard Lampoon" magazine, which has been around for at least 100 years -- although the Harvard Lampoon satirizes popular culture more that it satirizes the news.

I agree that this show sucks.

The reason people are saying ONN is a rip on The Daily Show is because it looks exactly like The Daily Show's parody of CNN/FOX. Its a parody of a parody. ONN is a copy of an imitation...Except the main difference being:

Jon Stewart is a talented comedian with intelligent things to say.

The pitiful excuse for scripted-reality TV that is ONN has nothing of value. No talent and its boring.

I also thought the recent episode I saw of ONN was especially foul. I am referring to season 2 episode 8 "Studio A.I." in which a news reporter visits the wife of an Iraqi soldier who is missing in action. As the reporter interviews the wife he gets closer and closer to her over a few days in a montage of him talking to her, comforting her, doing chores for her, playing sports with her son, chastising her son at the dinner table to eat his vegetables and then finally after dinner he walks up behind the wife and kisses her on the mouth. Real funny.

And if that sounds like good writing to you then I hope I just spoiled the episode.
