About the release date...

Director Alex Kurtzman talked about the film to collider.com, in late July when he and Mr. Bob Orci were promoting C&A...

"When are people going to see the first images or trailer for Welcome to People? When is it going to be released?

Kurtzman: It’s a different kind of movie in that it’s a family drama/comedy. I don’t think there is going to be an image like in Cowboys & Aliens where everyone is like, “What is the alien going to look like? How is Harrison going to look like? How is the alien going to look like in his chaps?” It’s not that kind of movie. I’m in the process of figuring that out with the studio. I’m literally a month away from finishing post.

Orci: Then we will see it. Then we will know what is a good release date. We will plan it around.

Are you planning to take it to any film festivals?

Kurtzman: I would love to. I think that it feels like the kind of movie that would thrive there. It’s been an unbelievably joyful experience from the minute that I started. It’s just been incredible. It happened very fast. It happened in the middle of Cowboys & Aliens very unexpectedly.

Do you see yourself wanting to go to something like Sundance with it?

Kurtzman: Sure. Although I think that Sundance is more geared towards independent film and it’s not really an independent film.

I don’t even know if it’s independent anymore. Fox Searchlight releases their stuff there all of the time.

Kurtzman: Sure. Maybe. I think that kind of thing would be amazing. It’s always been my dream to go to Sundance. It would be pretty poetic.

So basically there is no word on when fans are going to be see anything from the movie?

Kurtzman: I’m literally about to get into all of those conversations with the studios about when they want to start releasing images and how things will get out there."

When he said they were getting into talks with the studio about releasing images (end of July), I'd expected we'd be seeing the first previews right around now. Hope I wasn't wrong.

According to Deadline Hollywood, Kurtzman and his production partner are leaving Dreamworks when their two year deal runs out (sometime soon) and that could impact the release date for WTP. I suspect the disappointing boxoffice numbers for Cowboys & Aliens soured their relationship at the studio and they are moving on. I just hope WTP doesn't get lost in the shuffle.

Some articles are saying that WTP is still being released by Dreamworks in 2012 so looks like may be their last project with Dreamworks. Hope they announce a release date soon.

dasadbd,

Yes, it seems a little disappointing the lack of news of the producers about the film... and this news about them being out of Dreamworks is worrying... but they are showing the film in private... I think they are doing tests with the audience...

I found this link below... she is saying that saw the film last week...

"Last night, I saw a special, private screening courtesy of the Screening Exchange called, "Welcome to People" directed by Alex Kurtzman. I loved it and it wasn't something that I thought I'd love. In fact, I almost changed my mind at the last minute when I saw that familiar long line down the steps at Arclight Paseo. I figured, "Hell it's just another movie." But I'm so glad I didn't turn around. I'm glad I stood in the back of the line, got my hand stamped and cell phone taken away for nearly 3-hours in order to be in a room filled with strangers. I just wish I had something with me to write down the great songs I heard that disappeared by the time I logged onto this blog. It makes me appreciate technology...so check it out when it comes out. I'll make sure I have my cell phone handy the next time I see it so I can grab some songs along the way. Oh, I'm Hannah, not Frankie and let me know what you think."

Annoying still no news about a release date, trailer or even some pics to wet our appetite.

dasadbd,

Well, the last thing I saw about it was a comment from one of the producers on another site, he said: "Nothing wrong with WTP, just trying to look at the tea leaves and pick good release date!"... it was in November 7, 2011...

I think they are busy finalizing the script for Trek sequel... and early 2012 they will be busy with the filming... perhaps, after that they make the release of WTP... but I'm just speculating...
