Anybody else have problems with the ending? (Expect spoilers)

Although there were definitely problems with it, I was enjoying the film well enough until the last 10 minutes. All of a sudden, we drop out of the adolescent coming-of-age market and end up in, I don't know, Stigmata, with all it's heavy moral and religious ideation. And then, boom, back to adolescence for one line, and roll credits. I actually came on IMDb to see if anyone had an explanation for what happened there. Did the director lose a bet to the editor at the last minute, or what? Anybody got any ideas?

I wish I knew. The ending was truly jarring. It left me flat after a reasonably enjoyable journey. At least Stigmata was consistent with its 'heavy moral & religious idealization'. Sorry, I have no clue what came over the writer/director at the conclusion of this film.

I'm not sure where you guys get the 'heavy moral & religious idealization' (especially the latter) ending from, but to me it seemed clear enough she had a traumatic experience along with a vision and because of these events she had an understanding of everything that was happening. And made the (right) choice.

It was rushed, nonetheless, and if only they put as much time in the part of the movie after she is told how and what as they did in the part where they established she is (seen as) a dork, it might be more balanced.

However, as OP stated: there is more flawed with this movie.

Stigmata may have had some 'heavy moral & religious idealization' depending on your perspective.

Agreed, but I don't remember stigmata.

the ending was just way too rushed.
I could not make all those leaps..
