Instant cult classic ...

Just got back from this movie at the Calgary Film Festival, and it was a complete hoot. Watching this movie live with a theatre crowd that was VERY much into (cheering for their favourite monsters, booing the bad guys) helped the experience a lot. I had a very good time in the theatre ... Although that does bring up the question; will this movie be good on repeated viewings?, and did the theatre energy help the movie along?. I'll need a repeated home viewing to see if it holds up.

Very tongue in cheek, and very well done. This one will definitely become a creature-feature cult classic in a hurry.

I will say one thing though, it did drag in a few spots, (it could have been about 15 minutes shorter) and the editing was a bit sloppy at times, (some shots were up to long, and the timing was off in places) and it seemed to run out of gas in the last couple of matches, (the best wrestling happened in the first few fights) but considering the microscopic budget of the thing, it came out very well, and very entertaining.

I found it extremely painful to watch and I wanted to like it. The backstory for every monster was terrible and the fights were too much like wrestling matches. I thought Postal was Dave Foley's worst movie, but this takes the take.

I agree it was just plain horrid. I forced myself to watch it as a punishment for starting it *chuckles*

Hey atomicmutant,

I agree with pretty much everything you said. It's such a cool concept and it was pulled off really well so I too could see this becoming a cult classic. You bring up some good questions though.

I saw it at the Toronto After Dark film fest and so the crowd may have made this a lot more fun than it is, but I bet it'll still be a fun rewatch. I guess that's one of the main tests for a movie if it's going to be this type of cult hit; it's got to be really rewatchable. I guess it ran a little long but I think it regained it's steam when Frankenstein came into it. Especially when the zombies appeared in the cemetery (which was an awesome setting!). Plus I thought Dave Foley was awesome as usual!

I definitely had tons of fun with it and will definitely grab it on dvd. I gave it a solid 8/10 which will hopefully grow after some rewatches. What did you rate it? Also, did you see any other cool movies at your film festival? It's a pain in the ass for me to go all the way to Toronto but I'm checking out a couple more in the next few days. It makes me happy to say that there are even more really cool looking Canadian made ones too which is great to see. Canuck horror has been really good lately.

Sorry for the lateness of my reply :)

I think I gave it a 7. Good characters, well "Acted" (not that there was any real acting, but everyone played the their part to perfection) and considering how low the budget was on this thing, it came out nicely. Personally I hope they go back into the edit suite and chop it down a bit, trim out some of the fat. I remember during the talk afterwards, the director said he cut it himself. Honestly it felt like it was edited by a director, and not an editor. Timing is everything and the pace was wrecked by some odd pacing ...

I saw a lot, (it was a while back so I'll have to think about this)

Runway - cute little movie, hard to understand at times with the Irish Accents

The Animated shorts - always fun

The Comedy Shorts - lots of fun as well

Short Dramas - A little forgetable to be honest

The Divide - Holy crap, what a grim movie, but entertaining)http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1535616/

Woman in the fifth - Quite entertaining actually, A good unexpected mind twist

I'm missing something that I can't think of off hand (oh well) Usually I see a lot of documentaries, but this year I didn't see a single one. Next year for sure :)

I actually had my own documentary screened at the film festival about 4 years ago. I did a documentary on sci-fi fandom in Alberta. Turned out pretty well :) You can check the link in my signature line if you are interested

Cult Classic,lol..no I doubt that. Maybe for wrestling fans...

Cult classics usually have something good going on.

This film seemed like a first draft. Where were the TV production people while all this was happening? Surely a few camera operators would have been gnawed on by zombies.

I thought that the concept was awesome. Too bad they *beep* it up so bad. Dave Foley has been on a nose dive for years. He should team up with Jamie Kennedy.
