Any specific reason for the recasting?

You'd think that, after eight intallments, recasting a character as crucial to the story as Pinhead would be out of the question. I know that horror movie killers get portrayed by different actors often for each installment of a series, but those are usually under different circumstances. Take for example someone like Jason from the Friday the Thirteenth series (I have never seen any of these movies, so I'm sorry if I make a false assumption). Jason's face alway has a mask over it, so we don't see the actor's actual face at all. Or Freddy Krueger, who has on so much prosthetics that the actor's face is, again, invisible. The case with Pinhead is that we actually see Doug Bradley's face when we see Pinhead. He is entirely recognizable. So why toss Bradley out?

They wanted to cast Doug Bradley, I hear. But when he was shown the script and informed of the purpose of the film, he declined involvement, citing his belief that it was not a legitimate attempt to revitalize the series.

I'm sure they would have loved to have had Bradley on board, but it was his call.

Robert Englund is Freddy Kruger... it showned in the last movie it was not him... the new guy was not bad, but he was no Robert either... Your right for Friday the 13th tough.... big masked guy that dosen't speak, its not like the actor is THAT important altough i always liked Kane Hodder... he had a good gesture for Jason.

But yea that new Pinhead guy was weird to look at... he was not that bad, but he lacked the Bradley feel too...

One thing i find a bit stupid tough, why Doug Bradley turned down this movie after having played in all other Hellraiser, especially considering how lame the serie turned out after the fourth...

Alice is the worst character of all time, she need to die in the last movie. Chris/Jill are RE !!!

I think Doug passed because the movie was really only being made to keep the film rights, and nothing more. And Clive Barker has been pretty open about his displeasure with this one, so Doug probably didn't think it was worth it. Not sure if Clive read the script or even watched the film, but apparently he hates it. Even more so than the previous bunch of sequels.

But this new guy isn't taking over, and he will most likely only play Pinhead in this film alone, unless of course the remake continues to take forever and they need to make another emergency sequel.

It cost 350,000 to make enough said Bradley saw what they were doing no heart no soul no real thought, it was like others said made to release something to keep film rights.

Theirs a lot more that goes into playing iconic characters regardless if you don't see their face, it's not just masks and make up prosthetics it's mannerisms, speech, real understanding of the character not just saying things because it's what you think fans want to hear.

Here, here, sir!

Well said.

It's embarrassing.
I just looked at pictures of the "new" Pinhead and it looks like bad cosplay or a cheap mask bought at the Halloween Store. I mean... there's bad, and then there's BAD.

I don't know what's sadder: the company that turns out a piece of crap just to hold on to the rights to keep making turds... or the starving actors that take roles in movies like these thinking they're in a "real" movie.

Doug refused to be In It because a) The script Is appalling and b) the other actors are laughable - the guy who puts on that silly, high-pitched voice when "taken over" should be shot. Besides, It's a Franchise, the Franchise was sold and so the owners can do what the HELL they want (pun Intended)!!
