Looks like this movie is unrelated to the made for tv 'Zombie Apocalypse' that aired on SyFy, anyone know if that's the case?

Different one. This is a sequel to another movie with the same name. Maybe that's why they added the random 2012 to the Syfy one with Ving Rhames.
