Saw it last night in Ann Arbor

at the Michigan Theater, whose marquee can be seen in a few of the still pictures in the film. It's a block away from the site of the former Discount Records where Iggy worked in high school and a couple blocks from the Michigan student union where the Stooges played the gig that got them signed to Elektra. It was great to hear the hometown crowd's reactions as familiar locations were shown.

The film itself is mostly interviews with some still pictures and performance footage and even a couple animated sequences. I knew the general Stooges history from reading Open Up and Bleed, but hearing the stories directly from the band members and people who were there gave it a different angle. Mike Watt's story about the circumstances leading to the 2003 reunion was cool. The audience applauded when the film was over.

If you're a Stooges fan, you should definitely see this, but I can also imagine someone unfamiliar with the band being turned on to them after watching it.

Thanks for that. Is there really a Stooges museum in Ann Arbor, or it a myth? I heard Scott Asheton's infamous crashing of the equipment truck is one of the animated scenes. Can't wait to see it next week.

I think the Stooges museum is a myth, but you heard right about the animated scene. Enjoy the film.
