Deepa Mehta- The Wrong Choice Of Director!

I don't hate Deepa Mehta...in fact I think she is a bit under-rated. But you have to admit that she ruined the film. I would not even blame Salman Rushdie for the script. Poor man, he only wanted the film to present an accessible format of his book and he was genuinely shattered at how much he had to leave out for the film's script. But the main culprit was Mehta. Her approach is too soft...it is too much focused on visual beauty instead of the vulgar, crude and ugly style that made Rushdie's novel a masterpiece. Instead of showing us the unpalatable, Mehta simply played it safe-she is more bothered about showing off good visuals rather that capturing the satirical essence at the heart of the novel...

It was obviously a wrong choice but I just hope that a better director- like Anurag Kashyap, Vishal Bhardwaj or someone else does a good job...Please, producers, invest in this material because it is a story worth telling on the large screen.
But Rushdie's book is still a masterpiece, thank God for that!
