shareShe was another daughter who was born without eyes. Anopthalmia. Some people who have that also have other genetic mutations. It's my guess she was one of those people which was obviously shameful to the dad (though he blamed it on the mom)
shareMaybe she also had Waardenburg syndrome - deafness - since it is associated with Anophthalmia? It is noticeable in the end scene where the four remaining women walk away that she follows after the other three by smelling the grass? So she basicly only had smell, taste and touch. When she were little these senses would probably develop sharply and so she would gradually begin to examine the world around her by smelling and tasting everything. Maybe this sort of behavior embarrased her father and since her behavior was like that of dogs and cats who love to smell everything he put her in the dog kennel.
