I think he wasn't completely sure of his feelings, until the end. Although he was extroverted and seemed open, he was emotionally stagnate and insecure. He was developing the components necessary for love (for Aimee), but he didn't realize (or maybe didn't want to realize) what all of those components meant. It wasn't until after his breakdown with his mother, that he sort of got a grip on what he wanted, what he needed, and what he was willing to be vulnerable for. It's like he went out and got all the ingredients for a meal and just left them on the table. Finally at the end of the movie, he decided to put all of those ingredients together, and through that he discovered what those ingredients made. Once he discovered what those ingredients created, he realized and accepted that he wanted to partake in the meal.
So yes, I do believe he loved her. He was just so trapped within the walls that he built, that he didn't allow himself to feel for her the way he truly wanted to. Like he said towards the end, he was fearful of rejection and didn't believe that he was deserving of love. Thanks to a life altering epiphany, he changed his tune.
