The most realistic sex scene ever?

Maybe not ever, but definitely from a recent film. I'm not talking about realistic in terms of explicitness, but the sex scene just seemed so real. It wasn't shot with ultra-flattering lighting and strategically placed limbs, or choreographed movements and facial expressions. It looked just like two teenagers having an intimate, yet slightly awkward experience. The director and actors did a really stunning job with that scene, and I can't think of a sex scene that ever felt as real as this one. Can anyone else think of one? Not explicit scenes, realistic ones.

Both of them, actually. Not just the one you mention, but the brief Prologue one with Brie Larson too-- both brought back familiar, realistic memories. :)

I like the one with Liv Tyler in Stealing Beauty. But it still doesn't top this one for realness.

I thought they went for penetration a little early, but I guess that's teenagers for you :) Great scene and excellent film. Even though you know he is so bad for her, you can't help but root for them both.

reply

It was realistic in its awkwardness but I'd argue that Shailene Woodley didn't look like she was in much pain and for a girl, the first time usually hurts.

reply

I agree, the lack of pain was unconvincing, but I've now read here that's because in the book (and mentioned in a deleted scene, apparently) it WASN'T her first time. Once I read that it made much more sense.

reply

First time? And how exactly did you come to the conclusion it was her first time?
Only because she said she never had a boyfriend before?

Just for your information, she was raped years before that, but for some reason they decided to not include the scenes where she tells him that.

reply

I think it was realistic. People say the one in don't look now was realistic.

It really was. It brought back memories of my teen years for sure.

Yes it was very well done, and in a tasteful, realistic and tender way.

reply

Agreed, although I also think Brooklyn's first-time sex scene was also quite convincing. But this was more R-rated and thus more realistic, and I think Shailene nailed those facial expressions.
