The Carpet Shop Scene

Did anyone else realise that long gay gaze from the shop owner dude to Mertkan? I think he desires Mertkan. The carpet guy was also annoying him with army service questions in the sauna.

I think that gaze is not because of the guy is gay. Mertkan is not even willing to talk about the military service and that gaze is for critisizing him.

could be but the carpet guy seemed to me a "bit" over excited whenever he sees mertkan :)

I definitely think that was intentional on the part of the director. Especially, in the sauna scene he was just eyeing Mertkan nd his crotch from the moment he stepped in the sauna and even asked him for a massage. It was clearly intended commentary about the character's obsession with the military, constant effort to appear masculine, commetting on Mertkan's love life with the ladies, probably all a result of his repressed (homo)sexuality and societies pressures to be ultra nationalistic, ultra militaristic, ultra conservative, ultra masculine, etc.
