How do directors not get that America is so sick of 'found footage'?

Honestly, I feel like all I ever read is people complaining about "ANOTHER found footage film??"

I dont care if it is Barry Levinson - this just proves how out of touch Hollywood is with what the public actually wants. It's a stupid gimmick that people have already been tired of for a couple years and they just keep doing it! Knock it off, Levinson!

All you read on IMDB is people complaining about found footage films, yet every time one is released, it makes big money for the studios. Of course they are going to keep making them, as long as they are making money. Also, not everyone on IMDB is American, so not all of the people complaining are from America. You are pretty out of touch if you think the small percentage of the population of the US posting on IMDB, is the majority.

We made a land where crap is king, and the good don't last too long.

I wasnt just talking about IMDb. Did I say I was? No. I was talking about reviews, online, in magazines, everywhere. I WORK in the film industry, so dont presume you know anything about me. It seems like legitimately everyone is sick of this trend. And they don't really make "big money". It's just that they're really cheap to produce, so obviously they make good return, but that doesnt equal big money. And they, almost all of them, get terrible reviews. Maybe my question should be why people go see these films when they know what they're going to get and continue to complain about them while also fueling the trend.

But you know, I think I will stop posting threads on IMDb. All people ever are is incredibly rude.

I mean, calling me a whiny teenager is pretty rude. But again, I wasn't ONLY talking about you when I made the rude comment. I would hardly call my first post "whining". I don't see how I'm the bad guy here, when a million other people make threads bitching about these getting made. That's not what I was doing. I was asking how Hollywood could be blind to the fact that everyone seems to be sick of it. Next time I have a question and want to discuss it, I guess I'll keep it to myself and not post it on a... discussion board...

uh sorry but yeah they generally make 'big money', if you're a film making the tens of millions of dollars for a film company with him having to do very limited work then that is big financial success.

If i go crazy will you still call me Superman?

That's true, we may not be the majority on IMDB, but let's be honest here, we're the only ones that REALLY matter to the Hollywood film industry.

The question in my thread was how do these films get released if everyone keeps complaining. I wasnt complaining myself, though I am also sick of found footage.

They keep getting made because money talks. These movies make money for those who produce them. If you don't like them, you can really only vote with your dollar and not see them. There could be a million threads like this one, but if a producer makes a million dollars profit, he'll read these threads and laugh all the way to the bank. If you worked in the film industry like you said you did, you'd be acutely aware of that. Money talks. Plain and simple.

dude I rather like found footage films because they are often difficult to tell in a believable manner- the film makers really have to think about creative options to present the story in a plausible manner

I enjoy them and to be honest as another poster pointed out, obviously everyone isn't 'sick of them' just on the basis of their theatrical success and the fact that many directors keep trying to make them. maybe you're sick of them but it's a consumers market and if directors keep making these films and people go to see them then America can't be that sick of them

maybe the overly critical internet self made reviewer (such as yourself and many on this site) are sick of them, but it's certainly feasable that the average casual moviegoer enjoys them a lot

It's a strange cycle. But honestly, I don't think people are even near sick of the genre yet. It's true, I do see posts about people complaining after each new film is announced. But it's usually only a few people. And honestly, the majority of film-goers don't even come here. So I think in the bigger picture, there is still a lot of money to be made.

I still give these movies a chance, personally. You can still catch a good one every-now-and-then. I really enjoyed "VHS".

hell yeah VHS!!
