The mayor is an idiot

C'mon, the scene with the mayor and the sheriff on the phone is insane. This small town mayor is explaining how the governor wants to declare a state of emergency but he told him no? Why would the governor listen to him? Talking about the the last thing the town needs is people in hazmat suits! And then when they are in the car talking about not hearing from the deputies in the last 45 min while bodies are literally all over the streets and violent deaths have been occurring all day, the sheriff says that the deputies better not be playing a joke on him?!?! And the mayor chimes in that if they are they will get fired? Are you kidding me? Wtf kind of joke would that be? Who thinks that way? The dialogue in this movie was really awful and gave me douche chills throughout.

All ican think of is that he didn't want a scandal in his town. He wanted to believe it was less serious than it was. It's also important to remember that he was a store owner beforehand. This isn't the President of the Unites States or some experienced politician. He likely was used to small, stupid matters. I also got the impression that him and the officer weren't aware of the extent yet. As they were driving around it was quiet but they weren't on Main Street. At that poi t they hadn't seen all the bodies and just couldn't get ahold of everyone. Not perfect scripting but not horrible either.

The most ridiculous part of the exchange between the mayor and the sheriff was the whole idea that he had absolutely no idea where his officers were. Talk to your dispatchers, and you'll figure out the last place they visited. Oh look! That's right where they were.
