*Spoiler* Why did they turn off....

Why did they turn off the cell phone towers? I am not sure that is even possible, given the mayor does not own them. Or did the mayor ask them to be turned off?

Got me on that one. Made no sense at all. I figure he was trying to keep the CDC out? If so, I don't think he has the power to do such a thing.

Wow. It's the government turning them off. You didn't hear the CDC saying they were contacting The White House? They shut them off to isolate the town. The government doesn't want something like that to spread. It causes panic. The same reason why the bridge was shut down. Partially to prevent panic, partially to prevent spread of the disease, and partially to prevent citizens from questioning the source and the regulations that allowed it to happen.

Except that girl was using FaceTime, which means she was using an iPhone, which were only available on AT&T at that time and AT&T uses satellites, not towers. Further, if they shut down access to the cell signal, it would also prevent anyone from using a data service... like FaceTime. Oh, and they wouldn't be able to reach the servers that handle voicemail, either. Someone calling from the next town over would be able to leave a vm for someone in town whose service has been interrupted, but it wouldn't work the other way around. Their phone would say "No Service," and they'd be left with an overpriced PDA.
