Am I the only one who thought this was an underrated film?

You don't hear much about this one but I was really surprised by Barry Levinson's (Rain Man) take on the found footage genre. A reviewer called this "a thinking person's found footage film."

The Bay actually plays more like a documentary/mockumentary (minus the cheeky humor). It feels as if Werner Herzog found this footage and piously assembled it, giving Herzogian birth to a story that has bigger things to say about corporate greed, political fraud, and humanity's self-inflicted wounds towards our planet. It's not like your typical Paranormal Activity 8 sequel.

I also loved the balanced mix of cell phone footage, CCTV, dashboard cams and news cameras to capture everything we see. It's well-edited and shot, without relying too much on that excessive shaky cam effects and jump scares. Very interesting to see someone like Levinson tackle the genre. One of the more professional attempts I've seen.

Just watched it again and I agree that it's underrated. It's so well made, and scary as in a 'shit, this could actually happen' way rather than jump scares around every corner.
