Winslet just atrocious

Plain awful acting, laughable attempt at Russian accent. As mentioned in another post, incredible list of actors, sadly wasted on this film.

how else an untalented wash out has been find work but not in flops like this

You want to try that again in English?

She always was a terrible actress but the media overrated her.

reply

I disagree. She did a fine job.

Her Russian accent was one of a person who spoke English well. An actor doesn't have to have an over-the-top Boris and Natasha accent in order for it to be good. Rather, I thought hers more believable because it made me think that she, like most people who know two or more languages, had been speaking English long enough to not have a ridiculously strong stereotypical accent.

And she played a good bad ass. Again, not over-the-top. I prefer subtle to in-your-face acting. It's more realistic.

I actually know a Russian that immigrated to the US.

And you are completely full of it.

And I know a whole slew of Russian immigrants to the US. I actually lived in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn NYC for around 3 years. The entire neighborhood is Russian/Ukraine, for the most part. I was one of of maybe a small handful of native US citizens in my building. I loved the place.

Now, add to the fact I worked in Manhattan with about four Russian computer engineers (2 male, 2 female), as well as a couple of Polish brothers, a Brazilian, and a Korean. My best friend is a Russian immigrant to the US at the age of 22 who is now 35. She speaks great English, with a heavy Russian accent. She is one of the above engineers. One of the others sounded like a Russian Submarine Commander pulled out of Red Alert 2.

All of the above being said, the range of Russian/English accents varies greatly, based on the person. Some people I lived near spoke great English, with little-to-no accent, others medium, and others very heavy. Some didn't speak much English at all (so hell if I knew what they were saying).

My point is that just because you know one immigrant, doesn't mean anything. That's like saying one white US person represents the dialect of every white US person. Ridiculous.

Kate Winslet sounded fine. She had a stronger American presence in her tone, with a few hints of Russian. She looked the part. You people get on people about accents based on Hollywood stereotypes.

None of you really know what Kate "should" sound like, and you know it wasn't 100% born and raised English. She was fine.

I had no idea that was her until the end credits. lol

Oh my effing God! I had no idea that was Winslet. I admit, I watched this on a Redbox rental and I was a little turned up, but with all that, she was awful. OMG!! I need a refund of my $2.00!!!

They did her a disservice putting her in scenes with the flawless Gal Gadot though!

reply

Agreed. Surprised by the numerous posts about how good she was. I thought she was there worst part of the movie (and there's a good number of bad characters in this movie).
