Saw

Who else was intrigued by the trailer until they found out its made by the director of saw. lol

reply

More importantly, it's directed by the guy directed the bad Saw movies.

Everything I ever needed to know, I learned from killing smart people and eating their brains.

IMO Saw 1 and 2 were the only good ones.. he did #2 (:

SAW1....IS THE BEST THRILLER EVER!!!(AT LEAST FOR ME)

reply

Yep. I was excited and then I saw "from the director of..." and my heart just sank. Same thing happened during the Insidious trailer when it came up as the makers of Paranormal Activity. Who keeps giving these talentless people money to drive the horror movie industry into the ground? I take that back, since apparently the masses flock to these crap movies in droves. All I can say is I'm fairly sure this movie will be bad, not just because of the director but also because of the "phenomenon" it's based on.

reply

Yeah, but Insidious was actually really good (well, the first 2/3 at least).

reply

First of all, you need to read further into what the trailers and posters claim as a marketing ploy.

A) Yes, the 'Saw' sequels weren't very good, BUT the director's two other films (which he made after his stint directing 'Saw' sequels) were great. 'Repo! The Genetic Opera' was original and highly entertaining, and 'Mother's Day' is arguably the best horror remake of the past five years. He's proved himself as a strong director.

B) Oren Peli, the director of 'Paranormal Activity's' involvement in 'Insidious' was that he was one of the producers. He did not write or direct the film.

C) James Wan (director of 'Insidious') directed the first 'Saw', a landmark film in modern horror. Also, his two films after that, 'Dead Silence' and 'Death Sentence' were very different to 'Saw', and were both very well-handled thrillers.

AND

D) Oren Peli has only made one film to date, 'Paranormal Activity', and it was a solid piece of film-making that proved that what you don't see is far scarier than what you do. He brought horror back to it's roots.

In my books, this makes Darren Bousman, James Wan and Oren Peli far from talentless.

reply

You nailed it on the head. Well except for letter D, I found the movie to be on the boring side, but to each his own.

Signature.

reply

Lol, skimming through the comments as I watch this terrible film (XD)

Your "D" is just annoying to read, I am sorry, but is there a new religion that believes the Earth is only 10 years old? because Paranormal Activity proved that what you don't see is far scarier than what do you? um....right, yeah because that wasn't already known.

For the love of God, what is wrong with some people who use this forum.

reply

Yeah. Producers keep giving money to make delicious trailers but lackluster movies, heck why not some random forum member or something (like me) and get a chance to screw also another movie at least its a gamble ----- not a sure fire loser.....

reply

Same here. I thought it might be interesting till I found out who the director
was. Soooo, I pass on this one.

Saw had good directing. What's so disappointing about this?

Have people forgotten that directing has nothing to do with the actual story? I don't see why people care that it's someone who directed a Saw movie. If you don't like the story of Saw, that's okay, but why should a director be put down just because you didn't like the story? A movie can have a bad story but very good directing. Likewise, a movie can have a very good story but terrible directing. Seems like people just find hate in something and anyone who is associated with what they hate is suddenly seen as a bad person. It's no longer about the individual director's talents, it's about whether or not the director has directed something you hate like "Saw" or "Paranormal Activity". If you honestly only watch movies because the director hasn't directed a movie you hate, then you must miss a lot of good films.

While I agree with that Jump_around90, it is the advertising team that is forcing that association.

Without this association, the ad technique is worthless. They want you to associate films with directors this way, because hopefully you'll want to see it, even if the film had good story only, and poor directing. They are hoping you'll associate the director with the story you liked, and see the current film. This is the flipside of doing just that.
