Bateman not for comedy?
After seing him in Disconnect I thought that this is the type of movies that suits him. Not comedy.
Don't get me wrong. I like him but most of the comedies he's been in have been kind of boring.

He was very bland in this film and wasn't very funny.
I agree, he seems too serious to get the amount of laughs that a comedy needs.
Bateman was great in Horrible Bosses.
shareHow is the face of Arrested Development not meant for comedy?
Less than forget. But more than begun.
I think Bateman's amazing as the straight man in comedies but was kind of lacking in laughs here.

to be fair, everybody was lacking in laughs here. the writers seemed to have been too distracted with the weird pimp-angle to write in some actually good jokes.
they had an awesome cast but just not that great jokes written for them.
Jason Bateman was not the problem (and like someone already said, Arrested Development is proof of his comedic genius!)

I thought McKinnon, B Vance, Park, and Miller were pretty consistent with laughs. But overall, this was a disappointment to me as well.
I think a problem was that this film had six writers for it. Way too many for this type of film.

would explain why there's, like, 8 storylines.
seriously, why do so many comedies feel the need to insert intricate storyline-twists that usually involve something illegal and/or dangerous?
wouldn't the whole "can't afford the party but still doing it in the hopes of saving the company" arc suffice? TJ Miller's character went from funny, careless dude to dangerously suicidal guy who doesn't mind killing others with his recklessness too quick for my taste.
that said, i thought courtney b vance was hilarious. randall park was very funny, too (with the rather poor material he'd been given), McKinnon i don't know, i only know her from some SNL sketches and ghostbusters and thought she's funnier in both than in this movie. it felt like she thought she was in an SNL sketch, that kinda humor doesn't do much for me in movies. no laughs from Miller for me, i thought his acting was extremely poor.

I like him in comedies. He was good in this movie and was great in Horrible Bosses and Bad Words. He's charismatic and has a clever, sarcastic, dry sense of humor.
shareDisconnect is a movie that was released in only a handful of theaters and is one that most people have never heard of.
