Happened to me, sort of

I rescue dogs, so I have several. One day I was sitting on the couch, staring down at my laptop and I had the split second thought in my brain: "Which dog was that who just walked past me?"

When I looked up, there was a VERY large Australian Shepherd on his way to lie down on one of the dog beds. He was wearing a red bandana and he was coming from the kitchen, where there's no doggie door, so he'd been inside at least a few minutes.

Because of the doggie door, there's no mystery about how he got into the house, but it was very strange that none of the other dogs paid any attention. Dogs get dumped on the road by my farm so every now and then there's a strange dog in the yard or even up on the deck looking in the window--which makes my dogs go NUTS. This guy, no one even stood up to sniff around and investigate.

The dog was in good shape, not starved, not abused, nice coat, had that cute red bandana, obviously a pet.

I called every vet clinic for 60 miles, put up flyers, put ads in newspapers, posted on the internet, called Aussie rescues. Nothing. He was so beautiful and so extraordinarily large for his breed, I think someone would have known something about this dog if he'd lived around here.

He stayed about two weeks and then he was gone.

I always hoped my house was a rest stop for him on his way back to his people, like in The Incredible Journey.
