Is it really that bad, or are people just tired of this genre?

I saw the trailer and it seemed to me probably as good as The Hangover, but it's apparently getting very bad reviews and bad comments.

I haven't seen it but I'm really curious about the answer to the question I posted in this thread's title: Is it really that bad, or are people just tired of this genre?

What I see in a lot of the comments is people comparing it with (obviously) The Hangover, Project X, Superbad, etc. And all it seems to me is people either tired of the movies-about-people-getting-drunk genre or people expecting it to be as good as the movies I previously mentioned and getting disapointed.

I would like someone with a solid opinion to comment please.

I think it may be people tired of the genre, so I don't understand why they even saw it in the first place. The movie is nothing new, but it's not a bad movie, it just had some some moments and lines I disliked. Overall, it's worth seeing if you're already interested.

If you liked all of those movies you mentioned, you'll most likely like this one. It was pretty funny, nothing too new or creative but the actors make it enjoyable.

Yes, I had liked the two leads in other films, that was the the main reason I decided to go, all three were good. Teller totally seemed like Vince Vaughn Jr in this, lol.

reply

He did though haha he was pretty hilarious.

First thing: It's just a film .
90% of Comedies lack good ethics, virtue, morality, rationality, brotherly kindness, discretion, etc...But did you Laugh? Yes.
I laughed a lot. This film Had plenty of raunchy dialogue, nudity, racist humor, girls making out with girls, guys Making out with guys, alcohol consumption, drug use, controlling parents, and the Number one ingredient: Do What thy Wilt Message.
Rebellion against status quo; f... You Dad, this is my Life. So I stole your SUV. So I almost killed my friends. So I totaled your SUV. So I caused 100's of other people to get injured. So I destroyed Public Property, F... Whatever sacrifices you guys made for me so that I could be successful as an adult...I really just want to do what I Want to do. Regardless of how effects others. Yes...it has all the elements of every successful "Party Drink Puke Forget" Flick ever made. But again it's just a film. You already know what to expect so don't expect "Argo" when the credits rolls own the Big Screen. 5 out of 10 Stars.

It's so f_cking bad that my friend and I walked out of this movie and this is the first time EVER that we do this. I'm still astonished at how formulaic it is, which usually isn't a problem to me if the characters have an IOTA of likability and charisma.

Without a single doubt, one of the worst movies I've EVER seen in my entire life.

^ ^ You should stick to "Diary of a Whimpy Kid" and all its sequels. Clearly you can't stomach adult comedy.

You call this piece of bitch movie an adult comedy again, and I will curbstomp the holy diver out of you!

Seriously the only "adult" scenes involved Jeff Chang's dad

How is this adult? For f##k's sake that was a random comment

People will never tire of this genre. It's simply a subpar entry.

It's in the long tradition of "trailer movies" wherein the trailer contains all of the movie's good stuff and the movie is lackluster all around those parts.

the review on the main page is pretty accurate. from a quality standpoint, this movie is atrocious and from an entertainment standpoint, its mild at best. im not a harsh critic at all, but this movie is just the result of bad writing and creativity. things that bugged: Main female actress smiles while delivering every line (seems fake and annoying), Asian girl they ask for help, delivers a profanity-laced acting atrocity (also seemed fake and annoying), events are forced, major plot hole, over the top acting at parts, subplot relationship escalated too quickly and was so predictable and stupid. typical Asian roles, and typical D-bag boyfriend role. off the top, the only Asian I can think of that didn't play either a 1. overly crazy or weird person, or 2. bookwarm who had strict parents, in a comedy movie is Harold, from Harold and Kumar. its so played out. main D-bag friend is stolen straight from the Project X dude. 8 or 9 ppl (out of maybe 30) walked out before the movie was over. with movies being 7-15 dollars to see in theaters, its not worth it to go to this one.

true. since i can live with low quality as long as it delivers entertainment i was eager to watch this and have a blast. although i never really laughed. the first 20 minutes keep you hoping for awesome s hit to go down only to disappoint you later on. and i really rally hated nicole and the the love subplot there. she was so unnatural and unlikable. it seemed like casey only fell in love with her simply because she was a girl.

EDIT: and yes the trailer promises more than the film can deliver. it's pretty much a let down.

I've not read anyone else's comments but here's my view on this movie. It's clearly been sold as a Hangover movie for teenagers. They even throw a Chinese guy into the mix just to be sure you like it. It has relatively unknown leads who will show their eagerness to impress. I enjoy crude movies from time to time, but it does take thought. I won't be paying to watch this movie at cinema, nor DVD. Which is what the film studio wants - they want to all to find out for yourself. And be disappointed.
Save your money.
