Latex gloves? yes or doesn't matter to you?

I never really gave it much thought before I started watching these tv cooking shows but does it matter to you if where your eating be it a Burger joint or fancy restaurant that the cooks wear gloves or not? or more of a "what ya dont know wont hurt you"

As long as they keep washing their hands, I have no problem with them working gloveless.

EXACTLY!!! Hand-washing is more important than glove-wearing.

Most professional kitchens are filthy and don't follow hygeiene standards. Even on tv cooking shows you see these professional chefs handle meat and then veg and other utensils without washing hands, creating a mess all over the place.

Its most definitely 'what you won't know'. And if you ever question or complain about the food, they'll spit in your dish. Or much worse.

Yep. Don't complain when you expect to get more food. People can vindictive and nasty as hell. Not everyone, but you never know who you're going to run into.

Can't speak to professional kitchens in general, but you do realize that cooking shows are heavily edited for time? They are not going to show such mundane things as hand washing . Take competition shows like Chopped: 30 min challenges compressed into a few minutes of air time, with focus being on 2-4 competitors in turn.

There was a special episode of Ace of Cakes in which they responded to a viewer who said the staff were never shown washing their hands. The bakers assured the viewer that they did indeed wash their hands—and frequently—and followed up with a film montage of everyone going to the sink and washing hands.

I would not say most. I have a pro kitchen & I am very particular about hygiene. I even excuse myself when someone wants to shake my hand. I say, sorry food as I hold my hands up. It depends on your state codes. In WI they come once a year, & they look at everything.

I was channel surfing the other day and ended up watching a marathon on FX for a show called "Bar Rescue" and they showed workers wearing gloves who were cross contaminating so much they had to shut down the kitchen.

That said, in answer to your question, seeing gloves makes me feel better, but I also recognize the fact that people can touch their hair, face, mouths, etc wearing gloves just as easily as without them. So I'd say I prefer good hygiene practices. But i live in a constant state of denial about food that I don't prepare myself. It's more than just "what ya dont know wont hurt you" I turn off any thoughts about it at the jump.

I love Bar Rescue. Wasn't even aware it was still on.

I'm annoyed by open pits.

Latex gloves, pls. Watching reality cooking shows, a lot of food service people look like they just rolled out of bed and don't practice good hygiene.
