Two Things That Stood Out To Me

This movie's got a lot of problems, but there are two things that stood out to me the most.

First there's the whole torture thing. I thought it was common knowledge that the same chemicals released when the body feels pain are also released through exercise, sex, and other activities, but I guess not. This whole situation could've been avoided if everyone decided whether they wanted to exercise, have sex, or even masturbate and go off to do their thing until the meter was full.

And then there's the idiot pregnant chick, giving her boyfriend painkillers before he's tortured when she should've realized the body can't release those chemicals if it doesn't know it's in pain, or can't release the appropriate quantities if the senses are numbed. If she really wanted to help him out, she could've waited until after he was tortured to give him some.

I know I said two things, but this one gets an honorable mention. I'm honestly surprised the plot didn't take advantage of the pregnant chick. When she mentioned she was pregnant in the beginning, I was positive we were gonna see her forced to have a miscarriage or even an abortion at some point.

Admittedly, I watched the first 20 or so minutes, realized it was horrible, came and read the synopsis, and skipped to the last 20-30min, when the Tara-skin-grating-torture begins. Now, I donno about the average person, but, as it happens, I have chronic pain due to an orthopaedic issue, and my current cocktail includes MSContin. That Kai ho has some SERIOUS *beep* issues if she's taking MSContin for cramps. MSContin is extended release morphine, which means that, even though it was administered pre-torture, it'd take HOURS for even the smallest bit to start affecting the user. In fact, since it's extended release, it will often take a few days before you build up a constant level in your system, so taking MSContin would've had little to no effect on their pain perception til maaaaaybe close to the end of the time period. I donno if they crushed them or just swallowed them, since I skipped the middle section, but, even if they did crush them, the chemical mechanism that control the extended release action (the 'Contin' part, which was originally developed, if memory serves, for OxyCcntin and was then after used by drug companies to created extended release versions of other opiates) of MSContin was reformulated several years before this movie was released, since OxyContin abuse had become such a huge issue. Because of OxyContin's reformulation to the 'Contin' mechanism, anything produced with the 'Contin' time release has also been subject to that reformulation, so that even if they're crushed, an immediate high is no longer achievable. I mean, even if you skip over the science of extended release vs. instant release (I also use IR morphine for my breakthrough pain, so I'm also very familiar with it), despite having gone through copious medicine changes over the 4.5y prior to my current cocktail and being very familiar with opiates/narcotic pain relievers, I was unaware that MSContin existed until my doc changed my meds. So, if the writers wanted to make a point of having some serious pain meds on hand, why would they not just use a common, easily recognizable drug...ya know, like, um, morphine (which would also be considered the instant release kind, which actually WOULD have dulled receptors pretty quickly, especially for a new user). Ultimately, though, my biggest question regarding the meds was why the *beep* she was taking MSContin 'for cramps' to begin with. Like I said, it's not something you take only when you have a pain flair up; it's what you'd take to create kind of a baseline for pain, and then you'd treat the flair ups with tiny doses of instant release opiates. But, I donno, maybe if was revealed that Kai was a drug addict in the middle of the movie or something.
As far as the chemicals being collected also coming from pleasure, I'm sure that 'the company' wouldn't have known any better if it'd come from pain or pleasure, and that surely could have been an option, but kinda creepy blonde guy (Steve, I think?) was the one that seemed to bring it up a couple times, so I'm sure the others who might've not known that were probably thinking he's just some kinda creeper. But, yeah, all of these people were at least college-aged to middle aged; a majority of them should have known that it's a pleasure or pain deal, and, had that been the case, a majority could've probably convinced the group that it's, ya know, true.
The other thing that drove me insane was that, after the torture had occurred, the meters would drop off within a second or 2. That's not exactly how *beep* works. Your brain would continue excreting those hormones until the pain has been mitigated to a certain point, and, if the chemicals are being siphoned off and not being delivered to your brain/body, it would stand to reason that your brain would continue secreting them, trying to mitigate the extreme pain and discomfort, if that makes sense? There are just SO many glaring plot holes with this mess. I also found it magical how, in less than 5 minutes, Taylor managed to fill a whopping 12% of the requirement. What the *beep* took the others so damn long!? If they'd just run an assembly line with the cabinet door, bleach, hot plate, and hammer, those *beep* coulda been out in under an hour. But, I guess that wouldn't be a feature length film, then.

Kia was taking the drugs to get high. Not for cramps. Remember she was hiding them from her boyfriend who she referred to as Mr. Clean? Saying they were for cramps was her joke excuse for her having them as most people know narcotics aren't used for cramps.

yeah, the movie is honestly ridiculous.

I don't think it was common knowledge on the sex thing. I believe, like you, people got that information from the trivia section.

It was mentioned in the movie itself and the girl said she'd rather be tortured than have sex with him and the guy wasn't even ugly.

Surely you'd have to 'enjoy' the sex for it to work, and if they're all terrified, I don't think that would be possible
